I kid you not!!!

Did anyone else see a private jet and a ryanair plane over Castlewarden/Kill areas yesterday? They were flying unbelieveably low (thought the jet was going to crash) and noise was very loud from the Ryanair plane. They did 3 circles of the area, I thought I was seeing things the first time.

The Ryanair plane did at least 10 circles of the area believe it or not, I was watching it for at least an hour. I think it had something to do with Mr. Tony Ryan who died last week. There was alot of security down at his house in Newcastle too. There was also a couple of helicopters flying about in display form and an old plane too, not sure what it was.

If you have concerns you should report the incident to the Irish Aviation Authority who will investigate it.

Thanks guys for the replies. I really did think that I was seeing things at one point. If I was a plane spotter I'm sure I would have thought I'd died and gone to heaven!!

YOBR no concerns as such although I do think that the flying altitude was possibly below the IAA standard over a residential area. I doubt that I'd get an answer from them either.

How on earth can you say that if you don't even try to report the incident?

Hi Clubman,

I suppose I should say that it wouldnt really be a complaint to the IAA but more of a query re the flying altitude and did they have permission to fly so low, curiosity often gets the better of me!!! I doubt that they (IAA) would go into details if I contacted them.

You can be sure that the IAA would take a complaint like this very seriously. A friend of mine who is a leisure pilot told me they are very strict on any aircraft which is reported flying too low. As Clubman says if you don't report it how do you know how they (IAA) will react?

There's a bit about this incident on the back page of today's Irish Times business section. Seemingly there was Tony Ryan's private Gulfstream jet, followed by a Ryanair 737 (?), followed by a restored biplane, followed by a helicopter, followed by a zeppelin and a hot air balloon (OK the last two were made up by me). The report also claims that Tony Ryan had left instructions for three Ryanair passenger aircraft to fly past but MickO couldn't spare two more.

Thank God, I could have missed my trip to La Carihuela in Spain.:)
