Can I have my 3 children as named drivers on a car I own. am thinking of buying a new car and would like to pass my car onto my 3 children while retaining ownership as I uderstand only one person can be a registered owner of a car. is this correct? I would like to give to to the 3 of them if possible.

'johnd' - it depends on whether they are eligible to drive the car (ie. if you have a Ferrari then the chances are if they are young/inexperienced then your insurer will not permit this initially (Although under the DCA 2004 they are legally obliged to - just expect a high permium) Would you be trying to get them 'cheaper' insurance by using your No Claims Bonus ?

If this is the case then it will not work, as your No Claims Bonus can only be used once (unless you are the only driver on both vehicles) Yes only one person can be the registered owner of the vehicle, but you can have as many drivers as you wish. If you are getting 'Open Drive' on your policy, ensure that you get them named so they can obtain driving experience (for reduced insurance) when they go to take out their own policies (if they don't already have their own policies in force)
