putting car off the road for a while? how?

ive bought a car and am putting my existing car off the road but keeping it for herself in a few months, her car is on last legs but she will drive till it dies!

how do i go about doing this? i believe u cant have 2 cars registered at one time, is this true?

i presume i have to fill out some form and send off to tax office?
 
You can have as many as you want. Insurance companies will not allow you to use one no claims bonus on two cars, that might be what you are thinking?
 
Considering the title on this post - you could drive it into the ditch - that would put it off the road.:rolleyes:
 
In terms of road tax, you will need to use this form ([broken link removed]) at the time you decide to put your car back on the road, and it will require a signature from a Garda.

In terms of insurance, yes, there will be no double counting of no claims bonus if you want to continue to insure the car during the off period. But you don't need to have it insured if just keeping it in driveway, but it won't be covered for fire/theft.
