Car Hire from Nice airport

I'm looking at booking a car at Nice airport next June for 2 weeks. Hertz & National are quoting approx €600 for a hatchback type car (Citreon C4/Focus).

Any other recommendations?

I paid just €310 last year for 11 days from Carcassonne airport for same car. Is it really that much more expensive from Nice?

pm me for details....I know a very handy trick through the internet, for car hire with a national rental company. I don't want to post it - in case I want to use it again and the company close the loophole. Used in Nice this summer...much cheaper and hopefully still the case.:)

what details do you need?

I returned from Nice yesterday. I paid Alamo Car Hire at Nice Airport (www.alamo.com) 209 euros for a 1 week rental.

I got this price after checking out their website and then calling their UK call centre to book. I asked for a discount over the phone and was given this.

I booked a Citreon C4. When I arrived at Nice I was given a free upgrade to a Citreon C4 Picasso because my booked (smaller) model was not available.

All car hire at Nice airport is in Terminal 2. All Irish flights are in Terminal 1. There is a free and frequent 15 minute bus transfer between the two terminals.

Final point - Alamo allow you to make a confirmed booking without giving them any credit card details. This is at no extra cost , you simply pay in person at their site in Nice airport.

Overall a very easy car hire experience.

managed to get an Opel Meriva through Hertz on the Ryanair site for €335...

Free. You are very organised I wouldn't be getting a car until about 3 weeks before mind you.

I did the same last year....just like to have it all paid up & sorted well in advance so I don't forget. Plus it was cheaper to get it now than wait until closer the time. It was last on my list...flights & accom already booked. 2 weeks 4* in St. Tropez for 4 for €2400.

Here is a trick. But please don't tell it to anybody.. it's a secret for AAM members only.

In addition to that. Always clear your cookies and google for "car hire nice" and click on their link as opposed to going direct to site. Some or all of the combinations can work.

I am a Hertz #1 Club member and have noticed that the quotes I get via the website when logged in as a member are slightly higher than those I get when not logged in!. So, just watch out for that.

Nice to know AAM is being watched more closely by the car hire companies than the New York Times!

If that's the "trick" referred to by MichaelDes, I'm afraid that particular cat has long since fled its bag, it having been published in many locations on many different occasions.

No reason not to try it of course, though companies engaged in the practice tend to make it difficult to pay at the lower local rate.
