Hi

Have just noticed that we don't have one of these and am concerned that all sorts could be getting into our water.

What is normally done here - is something available in a standard size or do people just make do with plastic sheeting etc.? Assume the tank is as old as the house - 25 years.

Thanks

If you can't get a proper plastic tank lid to match your best bet is probably a sheet of rigid insulation (Kingspan) or similar, weighted down with a brick. you could also use piece of 18mm WBP ply. Although if you are going to use ply it would be a good idea to paint both sides with an oil based paint, otherwise the timber may deteriorate with condensation over time.

OK thanks - so they may be available in standard sizes then?
Plumbing suppliers?

Are there only a few available & will it be obvious from a rough external measurement of the tank which size should suit, or, if not what should I measure - internal or external dimensions?

If you have a 25 yr old tank, if its an old metal one, seriously consider changing it to a plastic job. Things in your tank will be the least of your problems, metal tanks are only good for that time span.

Would agree with previous poster. Better to get it changed before it does any damage by leaking. Lot of water in there.

This previous thread might be of some interest. Great minds think alike ;)

P.S. Got ours in Chadwicks.

I bought one up at that place on the Cabra Road a few years ago, only to get home to discover that I could get in through the access space to fit on top of the tank. I live in an apartment. So be cautious.
