Reading Japanese characters on web

Hi

Anyone know of a reliable free tool for converting Japanese symbols on a website?

Previously, on some sites, my PC had prompted the download of something or other for this - but it took ages, caused crashes, and never seemed to work.

Any ideas?
 
On firefox, there's a box under tools, options, contents, fonts, advanced that allows pages to select their own fonts.

In IE7, under tools, internet options, general, language, you can add the languages that you want to be able to view pages in, so you could add Japanese and see if this helps. (You can also do the same thing in firefox - tools, options, advanced, languages).

Using babelfish...

Hmm, I can read it fine. Well, apart from not being able to read Japanese!

You could try Control panel, Regional settings, language and install east asian language support. It says it takes 230mb and it requires a restart. Alternatively, under the advanced tag of the same pop-up, you could select some of the Japanese code pages and see if that helps?

Thanks very much. Reveals, as usual, the colourful translation quirks from Japanese! Knew about Babelfish but just assumed it wouldn't offer non-Roman script translations and I had simply relied on Google Language Tools.

Will keep Babelfish in mind in the future.
