Getting to Dublin Airport on this Friday evening

Hi All

Living in the midlands and need to catch an 845pm flight this Friday night.
First preference would be driving - what will the traffic be like at around 630-7pm on the M50 and environs (is this a stupid question ?). Live in Mullingar so could go cross country i.e. Summerhill, Dunboyne and then onto the M50 at the Blanchardstown roundabout. This would mean avoiding the toll bridge !! I think there is a cross country route to the airport from Dunboyne avoiding the M50 via Mulhuddart and Kilshane Cross ? Any comments ?
Of course City link coach is another option although I have to drive to Kinnegad to catch it and it goes via the city centre and takes 1 hour 45 mins in total. Coming back it it nice to have the car there and also avail of the new pre-booking weekend parking service at Dublin Airport - [broken link removed]

ROSS,

Cross country is really the only option even coming on to the M50 at Blanchardstown shouldnt be too bad. Getting on it anywhere before the toll is madness. Dont have to do it but I hear the horror stories from Colleagues every day.

Unless the weather is pretty bad trraffic should be light enough around the 6.30 mark. On Fridays the majority of traffic is earlier in the evening, although as I said weather AND accidents can add to the journey time.

Kinegad -> Trim -> Dunshauglin -> Ratoath -> Old N2 to the St Margaerts shouldn't take much more than an hour driving with a bit of purpose.

Just to echo Mers1's comments - M50 north bound to the toll is usually bumper to bumper from about 16:00 on, until 19:00 - last Friday at 16:30 it was all stopped dead from Tallaght all the way to the toll - luckily I was going the other way! - Avoid like the plague

So quickpark are back in action? I'd almost completely given up on car parking at Dublin Airport in the last 18 months because of the expense and the uncertainty of a spot in quickpark. Mind you, I'd got used to Aircoach and a cab at the other end on the way back............decisions, decisions....

I haven't been able to get a spot in Quickpark for quite a while.

I've more or less given up on the hassle of parking at the airport and use taxis/Aircoach as well.

Just in case you didn't know you can pre-book your space in quick park - this function is up and running again on their web site.

I drove from mullingar to airport on friday evening 2 weeks ago. Left mullingar at 5.30 and I was in airport car park at 6.40 (with no speeding), stayed on the motorway all the way, slight delay getting off N4 and through toll bridge that's all, I wouldn't bother going cross country just to skip the toll bridge. Did the same trip in august and it was under an hour.

Hi All

Thanks for all your prompt and informative if not contradictory replies !!
Will certainly drive and will probably stick to the main road - filter lane at N4 / M50 north interchange much improved so will take my chances !
Thanks for the update re quickpark - great to have it back online.
Very tempted with the weekend special at the airport short-term car park - costs a bit more but no shuttle bus required ! As there will be 3 of us in the car, €40 shared won't be too bad (back on Sunday lunchtime).
Cheers again folks !
