Hi guys,

well i have decided to sell my computer as need the space and it takes up far to much room. Im going to buy a laptop.

I havent a clue which one to get..I currently have a dell pc. Its grand never had any trouble with it. have it about 3 yrs and was €600.

One of my friends has a hp and says it brill..then my mum has a toshiba (spelling sorry) and says its fab aswell.

Im considering getting a dell laptop as they seem reasonably priced but I will be keeping this for a good while so might get something else if better.

Just need lots of memory for pics really and the internet!

Ive tried to use the aam search but its not workin for some reason, if anyone can help me it'd be great thanks alot. :)

If price is no object then the Apple MacBookPro is your only man. Especially for photo, Video and Multimedia manipulation.

[broken link removed] this part of the dell site is cheaper! try it and compair it to the reg site

I've had a very basic Dell laptop for the past three years and it's great. I only use it for photos, itunes, internet, etc. Nothing hectic. But ringing up their help line is heart-breaking. I think their call centre is in India and the level of English just isn't good enough (hope it's ok to say that). That alone would put me off buying from Dell again.

have a nice sony vaio for €719.

Its only for employees of Dells corporate customers.

From their EPP Discount website FAQ ..

"Dell are pleased to offer employees of our valued corporate customer 7% discount on the consumer range of products and promotional offers (Dimension PC's, Inspiron Notebooks and Dell Branded Software & Peripherals - excluding delivery & VAT)) in recognition of the value of our business relationship."

If budget is limited and all you want is a laptop for pics and internet, then Dell is very hard to beat. I've had a HP/Compaq (Centrino Wi-Fi) for three years and my teenagers use a Dell Latitude... both have been very good.

If you are into one-upmanship and want the best graphics... then the new Apple's look the biz! :)

Hi BlueShoes,

Hope you're not expecting too much for a three year old computer that originally cost €600. I'm not sure what it would be worth but probably not a whole lot.

Also remember if you are selling a PC make sure that there is nothing of a sensitive nature on the PC when you sell it. Emails, financial details, personal stuff etc. Also remember that merely deleting files does not prevent someone else being able to recover those files. There are free programs on the internet which offer a more effective deletion solution. Of course if you don't mind someone accessing your personal stuff...

I see laptopsdirect.ie mentioned here. In my experience, a little like Ryanair, great until something goes wrong. Here's my story

Ordered an acer laptop about a month ago. The first thing was that they charged me about €200 too much, and then refunded me an amount equating to about half of the correct amount they should have.

Laptop arrived about a week later. Took it out of the box, thought the lid was a bit creaky, looked around the back only to find that the laptop was damaged (looked as if it had been dropped on its edge).

Got on to the (non-existent) customer service, and to cut a long story short, the laptop was collected by them last week. Then got a phonecall at the end of last week to say that they didn't have the same model (I had requested a replacement), so I requested a refund.

They have now sent me a refund - approximately €150 short of what they charged me. I am now back in the trying-to-get-an-answer-from-customer-services loop to get my money back. God knows how long it will take.

I have learned my lesson.........

Keep an eye on the Boards.ie Bargain Alerts forum for Dell offer codes. They have some good offers on the new Dell Vostro from time to time.

But check their terms and conditions: ...you cannot return any faulty goods to us - they must be returned to the relevant manufacturer....
This sounds like a breach of normal consumer protection law - whereby the contract is between the purchaser and the seller, not the manufacturer. It is the responsibility of the seller to deal with the manufacturer.
