Gas Price: Left gas oven on for 11 hours and used 400 units: massive bill.

myself and the wife are living in a 3 bedroomed apartment. Long story short i was sick in bed last night and the wife was working nights so at 7pm she turns on the oven to cook something and forgot all about it(she didnt put anything in it)- she got home from the night shift at 6am today(half an hour ago) and goes to make breakfast and reliased the oven was still on(is a gas oven 1 ya light with a match)

Anyway now shes freaking out that our gas bill will be massive- basically the gas ovn was on for 11 hours straight- ive checked the meter and its gone up 400 so units

can anyone give me a rough idea how much it is ive no idea how much units are

Are you absolutely sure its 400 units ?

This equates to 400 x 11.5059 = 4602kWHr

Charge is 3.6c per kWHr, so 4602 x 0.036 = Euro 165 EXCL VAT. :eek:

Bord Gais are not showing their current tariffs because they are about to change on Oct 1.

Check again, maybe its only 40 units - don't read the RED digit.
 
What price tarriff are you on? Perhaps you could do a quick calculation to see could you make any difference by moving onto a different price tariff befor the next bill arrives. Who knows bord gas customer service may even calculate this for you and change it.
 
Cant be 4602 kWh

max , Max power of oven is 3 to 4 kW.

So at 11 hours cant be much more than 40 kWh
 
It has happened to me before, I finished baking and I thought I switched the oven off not knowing the switch was faulty from 7pm in the evening till about 11am the next morning because it was a Saturday and I do not need to go to work. The bill was not really outrageous as I had expected.

well unless the oven costs (165 /11) €15 an hour it seems too high....


40 units seem to make far more sense....
