I am desperately looking for a pair of Asics Gel Nimbus, but can not get them anywhere. I have tried Elverys, JJB, Champion, Lifestyle, amphibian king...no luck. They seems to mainly stock Asics GT-xxxx or Kayano.

I could try to get them on Ebay (but would be restricted to Nimbus VII as i already have a pair of those, so know the right size).

So, I would prefer to buy them from a shop where i can try the shoe first to make sure size is perfectly right, especially if they stock Nimbus VIII, may be IX.

Any idea?

try noel dowlings in terenure, I always found them one of the better shops to buy sports shoes.

Arnnotts used to stock them.

Or John Buckley in Cork [broken link removed]

As above, Arnotts is best bet.
Otherwise ring Asics distributors ISDL 2953126, and they will advise you, no problem.

Try also 'Up and running' in Belfast. They'll be at the marathon expo on the 27&28th or their on the corner of Wellington Place near the Belfast Tec and 'Inst' school.

The website also offers an online shop

Thanks all for prompt reply.

They do have Gel Nimbus IX in stock. That's great.

I'll have to bin my old manky Nimbus VII that i bought 18 months ago that have clocked too many miles, but they are the most confortable shoe i have found so far.
I have bought many other types since then (Asics Kayano, Nike's Pegasus, Air Max, Sauccony's,...), but always ended up with blissters after 10 miles+ run.
I run the half marathon on Saturday with the "old" one and they did not let me down. I also tried 1000 miles socks for the first time, so that could have help as well. Though they let me down during a 40kms run on the Wicklow Way few weeks ago.

Not sure they are up another 26miles. So, i am against the clock to "break in" a new pair before the 29th October..and they better be the rigth one :)

I also suffer from blisters, though not quite as badly as before. I used to end up with anything up to 9 blood blisters after a marathon.

I suffer from callouses but now pare them down every few weeks with a callous blade (from pharmacy). This has reduced/eliminated my blisters. Now get blisters only occassionally and they're nowhere near as bad as previous.

Do NOT use vaseline on your feet - tried it - tend to make your feet slip initially but then dries skin out and makes matters worse.

Talcum powder can be good.

Big improvement comes from wearing your socks inside out - the seam (major irritant) is then on the outside. Only those in your wake may notice!

1000 mile socks - found them the worst sock ever. would NOT recommend them for long races/runs. You might get away with them for short races.

Wicklow Way - green with envy - missed it again this year for the second year in a row (shortage of numbers for team)!

Wicklow Way - green with envy

You must be the only green thing left along the way:) . I have been very disappointed at the "damages" made by coillte along the way. It looks like they have cut every single tree that they could hace access to.
I am sure it is "managed", but at the end of the day, the way looks "destroyed".

Likewise, a few of us run up 3 rock from time to time and it has been destroyed by extensive tree felling....
Agree with the 'avoid vaseline' as it just makes feet slippy and dont think it reduces risk of blisters. Lucky myself, never get blisters.!
BTW, got some excellent 'trekking' socks in LIDL a few months bask and have used them in last couple of marathons and they ideal for marathon running as well. Big advantage, was the price of around 5euro a pair.
