Just wondering what others have paid to have a well sunk - does it go by the metre or the foot usually. Thanks.

Hurlingfan,

it normally goes by the foot and 60ft you can get water but generally bore to 120ft down. I'm a bit out of touch with how much it costs per foot.

My well was bored to 300ft lined and capped .The charge was by the foot €3424. No pump in place yet. Hope this helps.

Bit steep by the ft there lad? 3424 per foot ;)

I presume it was 11 euro per foot?

Thanks for replies. Just had the well done and they had to go down 260ft. Cost Euro7 per foot plus an extra charge of Euro200 for 40 ft lined with steel lining (Euro5 per foot). So total price of Euro2,020 plus VAT at 13.5%.

do be careful to check that they actuaully went down 260ft. I have just been quoted a price of €9 per foot to drill and €3 per ft for the lining.

Any ideas on how you can check how far they went down? Thanks.
Get one of those windy builders site tapes and tie a rock to the end of it and reel it down.

(Mind you don't hit your pump, if it's already in there!).
