weather in Murcia / Alicante area end of October

Am thinking of heading off for a week at the end of October for a few days to the above area - - anybody been there or know what type of weather I'd be likely to get around that time of year?

I was there end of October a year or two back (school mid term break) and weather was mixed. A lot of showery weather but mild and there were a couple of sunny days when it was possible to go to the beach (though definitely not sunbathing weather). Not sure if that was typical weather as I had a freind who was in the south of Spain the same week and was talking to him on phone most days and his weather was worse.

(I was nearer Murcia than Alacante)
 
slightly off topic, but I'll ask anyway. Myself and Mr Sar are flying into Alicante on Saturday. We haven't decided where to go from there as we don't know that part of Soain at all. We are thinkin of hiring a car and going south from Alicante as we don't want to go anywhere near Benidorm or similar.

Any suggestions of a suitable spot? We'd like somewhere with some nightlife, but not of the English Pub variety. We don't play golf.
