Advice on wills for multinational properties

Please be kind. I know nothing about this other than I should know something about this.

We moved to Ireland 6 years ago from South Africa. We kept our house in S.A. which we're renting, and we have since built a house in Kerry.

My husband and I have an old will in South Africa which hasnt been updated in years, and we have nothing in place in Ireland. I obviously fear the outcome if one or both of us passed away.

Is it possible to draw up a single will that covers assets (and tax law and probate and all the horrible stuff) for both countries in one single legal document.

If yes, can anyone refer me to a solicitor qualified in these types of wills. (Of course Kerry would be great but its important enough to travel to Cork, Limerick or Dublin)

Why do I feel that the word "Will" is the wrong one.

By the way, if, God forbid, both my husband and I died, our dependents are in South Africa. I suppose that adds further complications to an already intricate mess.

Thanks for any advice.

It is possible to make a will here to cover your world wide assets.

Most solicitors will be able to deal with this for you.

Also Vanilla who is a frequent poster is a solicitor based in the kingdom so should be able to help you (i dont know vanilla so no conflict here).

Maybe the week after the all ireland may not be the best of times to get work done in kerry as ye may all (with gods blessing) be in mourning:p

(No I am not from Cork but as a bitter and disillusioned mayo woman I need to see kerry beaten:eek:  :D )

For clients with assets in more than one jurisdiction, my standard advice is to make a will in each jurisdiction. In this case, your South African will might be re-drafted so as to deal with your worldwide assets except for your Irish estate, while your Irish will might restrict itself to Irish assets only. These wills need to be carefully worded, but it's well within the normal scope of work for any competent solicitor.
