Possibly stupid question...

If you sign up for NTL digital do you still get the analog signal down the cable (or conversely as an analog only customer am I actually "getting" digital I just don't see anything without a decoder)?

Just wondering if, with NTL digital, you split the cable and route one connection to the digital decoder box and one directly to a VCR/TV does the latter still get the basic analog channels?

The analog and digital come down the same cable. The cable goes into Video In on the decoder and then from Video Out either to your TV or Video/HDD recorder and out from these to your TV.Hope that makes sense

Out of the digital box you only get the digital versions of the channels on the SCART output. Perhaps you get the lot if you use Video Out. I have a splitter on the cable before it goes into the digital box to take out the analogue channels and feed that off to the TV too.

If you have just signed up for analogue-only the digital signal is there too you just don't have the decoder box to take them off the cable.

Thanks - both posts make sense and in line with what I expected. Stupidly I originally assumed that they somehow "switched off" the analog signal when you signed up for digital...

One other thing - anybody know what, if any, make and model of digital cable decoder box NTL use these days?

Dont know if they have changed recently but the ones we have are not that old-they are Pace DC221KN.
The plan of course is to turn off the analogue signal I think by 2010 but we once again lag behind the rest of Europe.
There has been an interesting discussion about this over on Boards.ie recently.

Well I don't want their digital service so I hope they don't turn off the Analog system otherwise I'll go Satellite FTA and pick up a freeview card.

Romero ;)
