Rugby World cup on TV ?

I've been looking in to this myself as well. This seems to be the position:

TV3 are showing the opening game, the Ireland game and the knock out matches.

I think ITV are showing the England games on ITV1 and then the a number of the other group matches on either ITV1, 3 & 4 but can't find out which for definite (I only have ITV1).

Setanta will be showing the majority (if not all) of the games but haven't confirmed if they will be on Setanta Ireland or their other channels (I only have Setanta Ireland).

Not great really for the terrestial viewers. If RTE had it we would get to see nearly all the matches. I'm thinking it might be worth signing up to Setanta for the month.

If anyone has heard anything different to the above would be great to hear (unless it's even worse news!)

think newstalk are broadcasting them all with george hook et al on the radio - not the same as tv though

Can you do that or do they have some longer minimum contractual periods on the various platforms (e.g. satellite, cable etc.)?

Reckon I'll have newstalk on the radio while I'm watching the tv. At least we won't have to listen to Ryle Nugent commentating!

They've been advertising no minimum contracts, I haven't looked in to it though.

BBC seem to be showing them all from what I can see on their website. also TV5 - French channel I think which you can get if your a Sky customer, I've it set as a favourite channel already to be prepared,

what is the frequency on SKY for TV5.
How can I save the station permanently? I have programmed in frequencies on SKY before but when I turn the TV off, they get wiped

I didn't have to tune it in as it was in the listings, channel number 790 or something way up in those high numbers. I'll check it when I get home.

TV5 is on Sky channel 799.

Thanks for pointing out it was available, never knew-good for France tests etc.

Ccovich you bet me to it getting the exact sky channel no. Don't forget to check bbc and you'll get the commentary in English at least.

Friend of mine is looking to get Setanta for the Rubgy world cup. He has no Sky or cable (only terrestrial). He is willing to get dish and decoder but does not know where to go. Do you need a Sky Card for the decoder to get Setanta?
He just wants it for the duration of the World Cup.
Does anyone know a genuine supplier of this gear in North County Dublin / Meath area or anywhere else??
Thanks

The minimum sign up to Setanta (not Sultana ! ) is 12 months.

That is incorrect. There is no minimum sign up period. Who called it 'Sultana'?

You cannot get Setanta without a Sky or NTL(UPC) subscription in Ireland.

Other than the above posts I've seen no reference to BBC having the rights to the RWC. I'm pretty sure UTV have the UK terrestial rights unless someone can prove otherwise. (btw I would love if it was on BBC I think UTV/ITV will make a balls of it.)

From what I can see from the internet:

1. All the Ireland games are broadcast live on TV3
2. No live coverage of the RWC on the BBC.
3. It's on ITV but spread over their 4 channels. Only 2 of the Ireland games are live on ITV 1.
4. As for Setanta - Can't work out if it's on their free (NTL) channel or if you need to subscribe.

Looks like TV3 with the sound off and Hooky on the radio!
