NCT pass with oil leak?

Is it possible to pass the nct with an oil leak? I have an oil leak which my mechanic said was not worth fixing. Apparently it is not that bad and would cost more to fix than the car is worth because of the location of the leak! I think it's leaking near the top as my partner overfilled it with oil last week and it dripped out for a few days and then stopped.

Near the top of what?

Overfilled oil is an easy fix. Suction it out the dipstick.

Leaving it overfilled will cause engine damage.

Parafin is a good degreaser. Make 100% sure the engine is cold when you clean it. Wash it with water afterwards, ensuring none gets near the electrics or ignition system.

I have successfully done this.

About 2 weeks before the NCT I put seal swell into the oil... this makes old perished seals swell a bit and can help stop leaks... in fact the product is called Stop Leak, you can get it in Halfords or any motorfactor.

Then I had the garage clean the area thoroughly a day or so before the NCT and point out to me exactly where the leak was.

On the morning of the NCT I just wiped the area and it passed no bother.
