Guys,
Can anyone recommend a surveyor to inspect a second hand house thay I'm buying in the county.

http://www.mtmolloy.com/ surveyed our new home in Port, Co Laois, for around €400 and did a good job. Noticed safety issues such as badly finished carpet at top of stairs and construction defects such as incorrectly finished felt in attic vents.
 
I rang them and there engineer is on hols for 2 weeks.

Anybody know of anybody else?

I live in portLaoise and i got a guy from Carlow to come up and do a structural survey. he came the day after i called him, and i was happy with the report

Cost was 350 excl VAT
 
Aidan O'Connell is another Portlaoise based structural engineer that would do this sort of work.
 
Jaysus pdscarlow were looking for 420+vat for they survey. F*ck that.

Flamin 'eck that bit of an increase! I got it done in Dec and it was def 350 excl VAT. Ah well hope you get some one
 
pdscarlow are starting to sound cheap. Aidan O'Connell was looking for 550+vat
 
To be honest I should have warned you to expect a fee of that magnitude- as someone working in the industry I can assure you that you won't get a good chartered engineer with professional indemnity insurance to to a structural survey on a house for much less than €500 odd plus VAT. That said MT Molloys quote was very good, and they are all of the above. You could also try Kilgallen and Partners in Portlaoise, also very reputable.
 
I contacted Kilgallen,they are not doing surveys at the moment as the engineers are tied up on other work. I think I'll go with pdscarlow or mtmolloy.
Probably psdcarlow as mtmolloy will not have an engineer available for 2 weeks.
For reference mtmolloy were looking for 400+vat .

I'd recommend MT Molloy (no connection whatsoever) over PDS Carlow. Philip Bennet in MT Molloy's is very good.
 
I used Abbeyleix PM Services. Their Engineer spent 2 hours in the house and did a good report, they charged me €600 but I think it was worth it.
