Flow of water into washing machine

I moved house in '06 and since the move the washing machine does not seem to be taking in as much water as it did in the old house. I have a dish washer beside it where as there was not dishwasher in the old house. Could this be having an effect? Can anybody suggest anything?

What do you mean by "not taking in as much water" as before? Do you mean that it fills more slowly (maybe water pressure is lower or there is a blockage or something) or that it doesn't fill up as much as it used to (which would presumably indicate a problem with the machine since it should not really be operating with insufficient water in the drum)? No chance it's stuck permanently on half load if applicable?

Who fitted the machine? Are the inflow pipes connected to the right sources (I.E hot to hot, cold to cold??

Its the latter, it doesn't fill up as much as it used. I would say by about 50% less. I fitted it myself when I moved into the new place.

That sounds odd/bad. I can't see how it could operate properly with only half the normal water required. As far as I know normally when filling there is some sort of switch/sensor somewhere that indicates when sufficient water has entered the drum. Maybe this is not operating correctly? Maybe something got damaged while moving it if the problem only arose once you arrived in the new house? I would investigate further and maybe get somebody to look at it if necessary. I'd recommend www.mastercare.ie.
