hi all,

Anyone know where would be best to go looking for last minute deals for a 3 or 4 day break in Cork or Kerry next week? Two adults, preferably near a beach.
Ideally self catering would be the most suitable (caravan would be fine even), but failing that, I suppose the usual websites (wotif.com, lastminute, laterooms etc.) would be best?

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

thanks.

Hiya

check the dream ireland web site - i got an email from them a couple of days ago with last minute special offers and there were a couple for kenmare and glandore mentioned.

Sorry i deleted the email but i am sure they would be still on their web site.

next week week beginning 8th August kerry could be nice ,

Nice beaches would be bally bunion , its near tralee or Inch which is close enough to castle main,

In kerry at the end of the week ie 10th-12th there is a festival in killorglin which is called Puck fair, so guest houses around this area can be busy

I guess if u prices say ballybunion and say inch,
u could always drive then to killorglin which is'nt too long , it can be nice festival ie if its not raining as there is always public free concerts, never big acts ! but sure its the atmosphere more than anything else ,

i checked on that site and there is 3 diff festivals ie cahersiveen celtic music festival 3-rd -5th , Dan Paddy Andy 3-6th Which is technically this weekend coming , and then 10-12th , If anything puck can be good with the fun fair for the children as well

re accomodation i'd google Ballybunion and accomodation as there is a lot of listings
ie http://kerry.goireland.com/scripts/low/xq/ASP/areatype.t/areaid.2657/qx/area.htm

and http://www.stayinkerry.com/nksc.htm

i'm from kerry so i guess i'd be more familiar
note also tralee has the aquadome as well outside the town which is good too
rE cORK I guess the webistes would be better options but i'm sure there are corkonians who'll advise you better/

Ballybunion is nice but it's about 35 to 40 minutes drive to Tralee ( not a great road) and Castlemaine is another 25 minutes drive from there, Inch is another 20 minutes from Castlemaine or Killorglin is also about 20 minutes from Castlemaine. If you want to go to Killorglin or Inch I would stay in Killarney or Killorglin- both are on the ring of Kerry. If you want to come to Ballybunion there's plenty to do around there too- there's a theatre, some lovely restaurants, a brand new gym/swimming pool/leisure complex and a great beach. you could do surfing lessons, or take a day trip over on the ferry to Clare- I recently went over and went dolphin watching on a boat from Carrigaholt which was a fantastic trip with zoologists on board to point out all the wild life. Loads more to do too in the area.

What is Macroom in Cork like? Much to do? Nice restaurants? I've found a good deal at the Castle Hotel, what is it like? Gets good reviews on trip advisor but the pic of the outside looks a little dated?

Should have mentioned that budget would be important too - i.e. we don't have much to spend unfortunately!
Max of 300 euro for 2/3 nights accommodation.

thanks again.

Stayed there it was nice with lovely bar and good bar food. Macroom itself hasnt much in the line of restaurants and pubs that I saw.

Macroom is near gougan barra which is beautiful.
Lovely west cork countryside if you liked cycling ,walking great place to be based

I saw a lovely b & b in Kenmare which is a lovely town called watersedge in www.laterooms.com for 69 euro per night. You could spend a day in killarney and you could also go to glengarriff and out to garnish island by boat it is very pretty. Also Kenmare has a nice hostel which is new but has good family rooms and is not like a hostel at all it is called kenmare lodge and it is in the towm. That would be good value.

The hotel is fine - Macroom itself isn't much to write home about - easy access to west cork and kerry though.

There's nothing wrong with Macroom but it's not where I'd choose to base myself voluntarily for a mini break. I'd prefer Killarney, Kenmare, Dingle, Kinsale or the likes.

Good offer at www.carlton.ie for their hotel in Kinsale- midweek break €109 per person for 2 x B&b's plus 1 dinner. Drive to Garretstown beach about 30 minutes away. See reviews on
