Locating Microsoft Access on computer

A friend has the MS Office Suite on her PC (Office 2000, Windows XP) all legal etc - ie paid for as an extra when PC was purchased a few years ago.
The problem is, she can't locate Access which she is now intending to use for a database. Excel, Word and Powerpoint all appear on the Program menu and on shortcuts. She cannot find a back-up CD Rom & isnt even sure if a disc came with the package she bought.
I'm guessing that the Access Programme is there - she just needs to locate it & create a shortcut. But both of us are not very PC savvy !
Any suggestions ?
Thanks, Dave

AFAIK Access only comes bundled with the MS Professional package so its quite likely she doesn't have it, particularly as you say 'Excel, Word and Powerpoint all appear on the Program menu and on shortcuts'. She probably just has the basic Ms Office suite.

You can search for an associated mdb file - Start, Search *.mdb just to make sure.

If you find one there should be an Access icon beside it, which indicates that the program is installed.

Does C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\MSAccess.exe exist?

have you tried searching your harddrive? (ie. Start Menu->Search and type 'access' and click search.) Alternatively go to 'My Computer' and click search on the above toolbar and do the same.
If it's not there it may not be installed because normally it should show up when you go to Start->Programs->Microsoft Office or wherever it is on you start menu.

Also try looking on the disc that came with the PC - Its possible that Office was a custom install and Access was not put on. You could then do your own custom install over the top just putting on Access.
Office 2K pro defo has Access on it as i have it myself but other versions of Office 2K, I'm not sure.

try start, run, type msaccess.exe if its there it should pop up :)

Actually Word (winword.exe) normally runs as above so I guess that Office adds its folder to the system path so Access (msaccess.exe) should run if present too?

Thanks for all the help - it looks like Access is not loaded, only excel, p.point & word. They are trying to find the disc which (they think !) came with the PC but I'm guessing that Office may have been pre loaded (its a Dell Machine / purchase) and a disc did not accompany it.

Dell's normally come with a recovery partition and/or CD that allows the machine to be restored/repaired to its original condition. As mentioned earlier I wonder if Access was included at all with the version of Office bundled?

Would the free SQL Server Express Edition meet the needs of the individual in question perhaps? Or maybe one of the [broken link removed] to Access?

Dell normally include Microsoft Works on their PCs. This includes a database which may suit your friend's requirements, particularly if, as you say, she's "not very PC savvy".

The Works database is very straightforward and easy to use.
