Hi all,

we recently moved into a new development of only 64 houses, it's really nice. A few of us on our road are worried about one house that looks like it's going to be rented out plus their attitude while sorting out the place has been horrendous. For instance, I was walking along with my 2 year old in her bike, pushing her along with the handle and they saw us coming, got into their cars and reversed at speed out of the driveway and could have killed us. I was very shaken, not even an apology, more of a sneer. We are afraid that they will rent this out to undesirables, while we have no problems with rented house, we rented before we moved, going by their rough and ignorant attitude they will probably have anyone in the place. They shoveled a load of muck into their neighbours garden to clear their own dry muck and when it was said to them they basically laughed. We are nearly certain they are renting it out but are we entitled to ask them this?. We would need their contact details should there be any problems. If we are wrong we probably are going to have problems with them, they caused parking problems already and each driveway can take 3 cars, it's just arrogance.
I don't know if it's the right forum I am in for this, but we need to know can we approach them and if they are renting it out are they obliged to give us their contact details?.

.....looks to me that you are better off having someone else living there (albeit renters!) ...it might be a blessing in disguise!

They are a pair of pigs to be honest and the thoughts of them living 2 doors away kills us, don't know which is worse. I hate when they are around and I am not alone, the other people on my road that have moved in are sick of them. My sister moved to a new development last year and one of the houses was rented out to a gang of immigrants (there was about 13 of them in a 3 bed semi!) and what they did during their time there was unreal. I saw it with my own eyes. Horrible and inhuman. Gardai couldn't do anything, it went on for 7 months!.

Er - what exactly has this got to do with your original query?

It's the reason I am so worried, I don't want what happened to her to happen to me!. Other than that, nothing really wrong with giving an example of what really can happen is there???..

.....and now that you have changed the direction of the topic...whay not elabotate on what kind of inhuman things went there.......

- human or animal sacrifices?
- witchcraft?
- funny stuff with farm animals?

......

The impression I get from this post is that you are judging all immigrants based on the experience that your sister had. Is that really what you are saying?! If this is that case then yes, there is a problem with “giving an example of what really can happen” because it’s xenophobic and/or racist.

i agree
i suppose we always worry about "renters" thinking of the worst horror stories the gang of 5 guys (2 gardai) who ruined a kitchen cooker by not cleaning it is a personal one (to balanace out the "foreigners" example) is my favourite. The landlord decided to dump it as it was completely ruined as was the couch from keys scratching and tearing the leather....
The reality is that if you moved into an estate of 60 odd houses you are lucky only one is rented and also thats only the one you know of - nice people rent houses and and treat them as they would if they owned them so I would say stop worrying. all renters are not scum - a small minority are i'll accept.

I've seen myself and it's not for the faint-hearted!

as you have stated yourself, what has that to do with the query stated in the first post ?????

if you are not next door it should not be too bad but i see where you are coming from.

Nice people do indeed rent houses too as nelly says. We have lived next door to a rented property for over a decade with different people renting and only once encountered a problem (parking blocking our drive). Otherwise they were in general nicer than many of our owner occupied neighbours and took care not to cause noise problems, etc. unlike the others!

when i read stuff like this, i think, thank god, i am going to end up living in the middle of a field ! with hopefully nobody to annoy me apart from a couple of pot bellied pigs !

No offence but it sounds like you and the others in the estate have ganged up on these people and no matter what they do you'll all be watching and judging them - maybe they know this and aren't bothered making an effort. It seems that you are not only unhappy with them you are unhappy with the fact that they might have renters in - and you're not even sure if this is the case so you are getting ready to complain about renters that aren't even there yet! - it seems that you and the other neighbours are a bit hyper-sensitive about the whole thing. This happened recently on my parents road, one of the houses was rented out - it was the first and only house to be rented out, the new tenants were Romanian, a load of the neighbours got together to discuss this and were adamant that at the first tiny sign of trouble they would be on to the landlord and then the tenants - as it so happens the neighbours are still waiting for a first sign of trouble, they proved themselves to be excellent tenants and nice people as well - so chill out a bit and wait to see what transpires - if the owners are so terrible then the renters can only be an improvement! :)

ninsaga,
the well nourished rich farmers in green wellies ! shouldn't be saying this considering my dad is one of them !!!!!!!!! and please no farmers writing in to say you are not rich !

I get really offended by the attitude of some of the posters on this thread.

I AM an immigrant and I AM a renter. My landlady loves me because the apartment is spotless, I get on with my neighbours and have never caused any trouble. A lot of renters are like this. People don't rent so they can wreck somebody else's house and annoy other residents but because they need a place to live.

One of the problems in this country is superiority of some Irish who look down on anyone who is not. I am sure a few Irish have emmigrated over the centuries.

So Yachtie - do you represent all immigrants in this country who have rented a house? Can you speak on behalf of all irish or immigrant renters who either keep the house they are renting in order or decide to wreck it...... what? - no I didn't think so.

I have had immigrant & irish renters over the years......

- Irish & Immigrant who kept the place in the highest order
- Irish & Immigrant who wrecked (& I mean wrecked in a bad way)

.... so I think really it is you who is trying to stir up some crap about 'the attitude of the irish' or whatever.

Please note that some posters have already challenged others in regard to comments about "immigrants" which seem to be total non sequiturs and irrelevant in this thread (and others).
