Trying to organisea trip to a liverpool game.
Anyone any suggestions on where I could book this?
Would I be better off trying to organise ticket, flights & accom myself, if so where would I get tickets from......

I used solartravel.ie last Sept for the Spurs game. Was around 300euro pp for the following:

* Fast ferry from Dun laoire on Fri night.
* Private minibus collection from Holyhead and transfer to a decent hotel in Caernafon IIRC.
* B&B in hotel for 1 night
* Minibus collection at hotel on Sat morning and dropoff at Anfield - think it was an early kickoff (1pm?)
* match ticket in Centenary Stand + access to Reds Bar, Match program, half time tea etc.
*Transfer from Anfield to Holyhead after match
* Boat back to Dun Laoire.

I thought it was decent value. They have some fixtures listed for coming season.

Thats great I'll check them out and see how I go......would rather do a package if I could get one.....
Thanks leex

Have no connection with the company. Was surprised how smoothly it went. Any other questions do not hesitate to ask.

It's not exactly rocket science to get to Liverpool for a game and I am pretty sure you could do it for a lot less than €300 per person!

For what it's worth the match ticket we were supplied was a hospitality one listed as option 1 in the link below - face value = €120

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/tickets/hospitality.htm

That left 180euro for boat, hotel and transfers which wasn't bad.

A better deal could well be had through a supporters club I'm sure. When we booked the above it was a spur of the moment decision to buy an "off the shelf" package and we were happy with the value we received. There was no chasing people for tickets, attending meetings, waiting lists etc involved.

I arranged a trip last season for myself and my 2 nephews.
Booked it all seperately but that was because I had access to 2 tickets via a season ticket holder. Still had to get a third ticket from the club directly and that was a struggle but did get one. I think it was the first or second home match vs West Ham. Depending on demand, some tickets do go on general release but this means ringing the ticket office and if you are lucky and eventually get through, you will then be on hold for ages and if you need more than 1 ticket, you will be doing well to get them together. But again it depends on the match i.e. opposition. After the big spending on players, you can be sure tickets will be hard got !

Flew into Manchester quite cheaply with good old ryanair and got the train over to Liverpool. Went for 2 nights and did the Anfield musuem and stadium tour and of course the souvenir shop. Had a great time and maybe did it for 200 euro max each. With 3 we were able to share a family room in the hotel.
But to be honest, you should be able to get a package for 300 or less and if so I would go with it. The only thing I guess is the longer journey but when everything is arranged for you, it certainly gives you peace of mind.
Loads of travel agents do them - I think the Sunday Wolrd carry a load of ads every weekend.

I go over to the UK a few times a year for rugby and football and book it all seperatley well in advance and one of these days I will get caught with a fixture change but so far so good !!

If all else fails, you can still get a good seat in croker for €35 for the quarter finals.

where did you stay? in a tent?

Believe it or not the fast ferry from Dun Laoire was a lot less stressful than going through Dublin airport. No security crap, longterm carpark buses, queues etc to deal with. Underground carpark right at the port. Dart connection there also. Very nice mini bus on other side brought us to the door of our hotel and from hotel straight to Anfield and back to boat.

All in all a very stress free experience and had match ticket in our hand before we went. It possibly cost a bit more than Dublin to Manchester/Liverpool flight + train/taxis + booking own hotel + chasing for a ticket yourself but for extra few euro there was peace of mind.

If there was to be a negative it was that the trip was quite tight from a timetable point of view - ie not much spare time to do anything else before/after match but this may suit some people.

As I'm getting this as a gift for someone I'd kinda like to have it arranged before hand - save the hassle of trying to source tickets closer to the time. Gave Solar travel a call and they were very helpful.....will check out the Sunday World too for deals.....hopefully will be able to get something organised!

im doing it all separate, can anyone tell me about the mariot hotel, i have booked it for 4 nights at £120 per night, this works out at about €700, is this good value or am i getting robbed?

If you think you are being robbed why pay it???

im just asking if this particular hotel is worth the money, thats all? i was never there before but thought someone who was there might have something to say about it.

marriott is a marriott, mi off to glasgow next month and am staying in the marriott and paying £99 for 2 people b and b , if it is central to where you want to go means less taxis,

when we went to liverpool used to stay in a travel lodge in west derby, about 8 pounds out in a taxi from liverpool centre and it was £ 49 a room

You are getting robbed in my opinion mate but you get what you pay for, around albert dock in liverpool there a couple of budget hotels around 70 quid a night , stayed in one myself before, decent and clean and somewhere to lie down for the night
I travel over a fair bit each season to matches and normally use the ibis hotel, 59 quid a night, i am going over in august to a game and got it for 49 sterling a night, cant go wrong, .

You get a lot better deal organising you own itinerary. However, you need to book flights way in advance to get good value and fixtures are subject to change. A good idea is to wait until the SKY/Setanta tv matches are announced for around the date you plan to go as once this is done, it is a lot less likely that the kick-off will be changed later on.

The thing to realise though, is that it is very difficult to get match tickets for Anfield (particularly for the big matches; in fact you have to have attended a number of specific matches already that season to be able to get a ticket to the Man Utd or Everton matches), unless you are in a supporter's club, PTS scheme or know a season ticket holder who will let you use his/her ticket for that match. But if you book through a travel agency, you don't have to worry about obtaining a ticket.
