Harry Potter, much ado about nothing

I cannot understand the harry potter mania and how it became such a phenomena. I understand that the author is a talented childrens writer but at the end of the day its only a children's book. I think the mania is being driven by the publishers and movie makers who are milking it for all its worth.

Have you read them?! Doesn't sound like it. They're just a good story, does it really matter what else they are beyond that? If you had written a book like that that was successful and was wanted for movies etc wouldn't you want to make as much as you could out of it?

I can't understand why adults get so worked up moaning about the hype around Harry Potter. What harm is it doing? You have millions of kids (and me) getting excited about a book. Has to be a good thing. Let the kids enjoy the hype and excitement. Surely as adults we can just ignore it like we do when the next big blockbuster film is being advertised everywhere

I think there are a few HP themed porno movies already. So a friend tells me anyway...

we are so appreciative of Harry Potter in my family. I have an autistic nephew who would happily sit all day repeatidly watching harry potter. i no its probably not good for a child to be watching TV all day long. but it soothes him and his mother gets a nice deserved break. Bring on more HP!!!!!!

im going to see it saturday night, cant wait. read all the books - Fantastic.

Anyway, the title of this thread is misleading; Happy Potter isn't in "Much ado about nothing"

Picked up a copy at Tesco this morning for €10.90, cheaperst around and I must say it's a real page turner.

Hats off to JK Rowling for her marketing machine. What parent can turn down a child's request for a book?
