I have a good friend who is going abroad to work for a year but she doesn't want to part with her car as its reliable and has low mileage. But she will be away til next summer. Is it ok just not to tax and nct it until she returns. She plans on just taking out the battery for the time shes away and it will be blocked in in her parents driveway. Is there anything that should be done thanks:)

dont leave it sitting. at the very least get someone to run it every week to operating temp and operate all the motors, air con etc. unused cars deteriorate in very unexpectred ways.

Good advice. Also she will reguire confirmation from the Guards that the car is off the road to prevent paying the tax.

In the same situation I would either sell the car, or lend it to a friend/relative for the year.

does anyone know if it's possible to insure a car without the driver. What I mean is my aunt has just bought a car and is planning on learning to drive . The wrong way round I know but she got offered a good deal so decided to bite the bullet. But because she hasn't even got her provisional yet and can't until she's passed the eye test and theory test, she can't insure it. She's just hoping it won't get robbed or broken into before she gets the licence. Or should she just disconnect the battery and be done with it until everything's sorted?
