Hi Everyone,

Im currently planning the reburshment of a 70 yr old cottage. I just got a quote from a plumber. The house currently has radiators in the 3 bedrooms & 1 bathroom.

The quote include the following: adding an additional 4 radiators, changing the tank (in hotpress), supplying & installing the oil boiler, oil tank, and adding a power shower which involves putting a pump in the hotpress. His total quote for this work is approx €4300.. Is this quote about right?

P.S. He has yet to give me a further quote as he thinks that it would be better to put in a seperate shower as opposed to putting it in the bath as there is the space (I actually agree with him). However, I'd appreciate any advice on this please.....

boiler 800
tank 200
pump for 1 shower- 200
rads 100 each
tank 150 - guess

add in a bit for misc pipes, fittings and it looks like about 2000 for labour
id say theres a fair bit of fiddly work involved so its probably about right.

kk I'm guessing from your name and that quote that you are well outside Dublin. That sounds like a very reasonable figure for all that work. If you have the space a separate shower is a definite advantage and well worth it.

Yeah Im in Galway city, the plumber is based in County Galway. Yeah I guess it is a fair price alright and he's a sound lad so hopefully it'll all go well. Thanks for the advice re the shower, I think the extra work will be worth it too :)

kk0312, would you be able to tell us how you get on, currently looking for a plumber in galway county.

Yeah of course i'll let ye know.. This plumber has done work for family before and he comes highly recommended.. If anyone wants his details just Private Message me.. :) :)

Its a grand price actually - I'm in that biz myself , on a large scale, plumbers aren't cheap these days :)

Yeah I bet your happy about that;)

:p

Hard to pay the lads though, and high rates do translate into high bills for the customers, and sometimes a lot of explaining as to how the costs accumulate, as above. Could be worse tho :D
