Just booked a week away from next Saturday to Tunisia

Staying in the Bel Air Hotel in the resort of Hammamet

As I was booking last minute this was really my only choice!

I know very little about Tunisia can anyone give me any advice?
What is the resort like any info much appreciated

Is it expensive over there? Any recommendations for nice bars/restaurants or anything else I should know

Love to hear from anyone who has been there

Thanks in advance

Hi, we went there on our honeymoon 5 years ago, and we loved it. We went to a place called Port El Kantoui (spelling ?). The hotel was glorious, the staff was very friendly and the food was grand. We went in winter time, so it was a t-shirt and jeans weather, not shorts, but I believe the weather is gorgeous in the summertime. The hotel we stayed in backed onto the beach, so we would walk along the beach. We only went for a week too, but we did do a tour, organized by the rep, where we went to the sahara desert and rode on camels, totally touristy, but it was lovely and so glad we did it. IT was a 2 day trip and you were up at the crack of dawn on the 2nd day to go see the sun rise, absolutely breathtaking.

5 years ago, Tunisia had their own currency, which couldn't be taken in or out so you exchanged at the airport or at your hotel, and we used dollars which was the best currency to exchange (at the time!).

We went to a few markets and my husband bought a new leather jacket, the trick is to haggle though, they love to barter. Also their dishware is really nice too, don't remember it being very expensive, but not mad cheap.

Enjoy.

Is this still the situation with their currency where i cant bring their money out of the country if I dont spend it?

cheers

I have been to Tunisia 12 times over the past 8 years. You either love it or hate it. Guess what I prefer....

Have tried a few destinations but always go back to Port El Kantoui. On the occasions that I've booked Skanes or Hammemet, I've found the hotels to be not as good as the ones I've stayed in at the Port.

In saying that, it is what you make of it. If your hotel is'nt that good it will only be for 7 days, the sun will be shining and there are lots of shops (all selling the same stuff) around and they have some fab. local wines. Most of the hotels do a buffet for meals so eat what you like, and you will like something.

But if you are ever going again I can recommend some fab. hotels in Port El Kantoui. Their beaches are great and most of the locals are very nice people, especially the ones in the hotels. Stay away from anyone when you are out and about offering to show you around because they know what hotel you are from, they might even pretend to work there and met you the night/day before... Beware, they are not nice people.

So have a fab. time, wish I was going, will be soon though. Wait for offers to come up and grab them.

:):):)

Know some people who love it and some who would never go again (me included). Hope you will be one of the former.
