Going to Canada on hols - vodafone pay-as-you-go customer - is there anyway I can send and receive text messages??

I use web text to send free texts to Ireland. I receive texts on my phone from Ireland. I buy a 10 dollar call card and this lasts the 2 weeks for land line calls to Ireland.

Vodafone and Meteor prepay customers can both roam on the Rogers network. You may have to select the network manually. Not sure about O2.

Voice calls are expensive and best kept for emergencies (Meteor are about 40cent per minute to receive calls or voice mails, ~€2.40 per minute to call Ireland, more to call Canada!). You might be able to get a prepay SIM in Canada. Or use a phone card with a landline, as suggested above.

SMS and MMS may not work reliably (Only SMS worked for me, only MMS worked for others I know!).

Vodafone don't seem to mention that on their website or am I missing something?
Wasn't aware of it... but it seems (from a quick look) that the countries detailed on the map might be in relation to available "Vodafone Network Rest of the World" (Vodafone Global). Other countries may/are also covered, but under different (higher) rates, detailed as "Non Vodafone Rest of the World"?

Open to correction here, I've never spotted it before and no experience of it.
