is it true that an expired irish sky card placed in the box upside down gives more channels. i've tried to no avail

Go to Sky news and then interactive. Remove card (do not put it back in upside down). Then go to TV guide and wait a moment and this will give you the UK epg.

Very little to be gained though apart from ITV 2, 3 & 4 + BBC 3 and 4 etc. Basically just the channels you would store in your "other channels"

Thanks nutty nut. No extra channels but no more having to go in and out of services for ITV and extra BBC channels. Mrs silvermints is well impressed

Sorry, but I dont understand this - does it mean that when you do this these channels are added permanently so you dont have to go to "services - Other Channels ...." or is it just the equivalent of doing this ?

Not permanent as such and as you said its basically just the equivalent to going through the menu. They will stay there as long as you have the card out of the box or you turn the set off obviously but you wont be able to receive RTE, TV3 etc. when doing this as they are on the Irish EPG only.

Apparently what happens is that once the card is removed the box doesn't recognise any card/chip and by default sends the UK line up. Once you re-insert the card it will return to the Irish EPG.

As I said its handy for getting quick access to ITV and BBC channels that you would normally have tuned in manually and stored in the "other channels" and which have a habit of disappearing the odd time
