Can't answer the 1st two questions, as it's years since I was there, but I can't avoid advising you on 3. One word: don't!

Unless it's changed radically, Niagra is a dump. Don't get me wrong: the falls themselves are well worth seeing, but everything around them is 3rd rate motels and best avoided. There's a nice town on the lake not too far away (whose name I can't recall) that would be a much better bet for somewhere to stay.

Taxi from the local airport, lok at it's website to check out estimated prices, cabbies drive mental there, not as bad as Montreal, but bad.

You'd need to get a Hotel somewhere off Yonge St, that way you've just got to walk to most sites.

Agree on the Falls, do a day trip.

Niagara on the Lake , I think is the town you are looking for.. Again, I agree a day tripis totally adequate. One highlight for us though was the helicopter ride over the falls.

Sheraton Centre, Downtown Toronto was our base which was great. Taxi fares reasonable and the best way imho from airport to hotel.

What is Path system? Very hot there this summer.
Niagara on the lake is a lovely place to stay in, but prob need a car.
Niagara falls has been cleaned up over the last few years. Casinos have arrived and they get a lot of American tourists over the border.
Definitely do the Maid of the Mist boat tour, it brings you right up to the falls. Long line ups but they move pretty quick.
Your hotel might have a bus shuttle to bring you into downtown Toronto, check when booking.

Royal York is a really nice hotel close to the Path System, the subway, the Air Canada Centre. If it is nice in the summer it is worth going out to the islands, the ferry is not far from the Royal York.

To answer Leafs, the path system is the connection of the basement of a number of buildings that run along Yonge St from the Air Canada Centre up as far as the Eaton Centre. Basically all the basements of the office blocks basements are food courts and shopping so it is just a matter of a few corridors to connect them.

The paths do not have a nice grid structure like above ground so I often found myself going up stairs to my destination and being no where near where I thought I was :)

Ahh, the underground city in Toronto!
Yes it is airconditioned!! 10 Kilometres long and has 6 hotels connected to it!

You happen to know the names of the hotels???Am terrified that it will be very hot there and might have to travel by PATH to get around...!!!Would like to be near theatres, restaurants,CN Tower etc. though....!!Hard to please!!

How about The Intercontinental Hotel on Front St. Close to Harbourfront, Hockey Hall of Fame, Restaurants, Subway etc

Again, The Sheraton also connected to it and was only minutes from Cn Tower.. Book Room only in any of the hotels as there is such a choice of eateries literally downstairs.

Sheraton appears to be very expensive! Anyone got experience of Cambridge Suites ,Residence Inn Downtown or Mariott Eaton Centre???

Hi, Sorry can't answer on questions 1 & 2 as we stayed with family when we were there last year. We didn't stay at the falls, again due to the fact we were with family. But I would have liked to have stayed there.

The town is very commerical which is not surprising and its great contrast to the falls. There were some nice hotels around. I remember seeing the Days Inn (which is OK, going by the one in galway) and there was also a Renassiance (which I've found lovely in other locations). We left before dark as had to drive back to the other side of the city, but it would have been lovely to see the falls lit up at night and I'd stay over night for this reason alone.

I'd also recommend Niagara-on-the-lake we spent a day here also. It was lovely.

Has anyone booked hotels through needahotel.com or alpharooms.com??Prices much better than booking directly with hotel but am wary......

I've used needahotel.com twice. They are based in Glenageary in Dublin. Had no problems with them and got a good deal both times.

I used needahotel for my stay in toronto. Very pleased .I stayed in The Metropolitan. Very central and was able to walk to most places.I was on my own so had to be extra careful about my choice of location. Great city. Hope to go back soon.Found the city bus tour great help to get to know my way around.

Id second the Royal York if its in your budget, a very nicely located hotel downtown Toronto. Near the shopping districts ( Yonge St), the CN Tower, Air Canada Centre and where you can get all your connecting buses to airport, subways to other areas like Niagra/ Canadas Paramount Wonderland, the Red Square Shopping Centre

if the weather is hot take a short stroll from the Royal York to Harbourfront for trips to Central Island, Lake tours and some fabulous eateries. On Saturday during peak season there is a market just beside the harbourfront shopping centre and there are numerous festivals throughout the summer.

For a nice lunch down there I recommend Cafe Deli in the very cool & airconditioned shopping centre..........the best sandwiches & icecream in Toronto !

Thinking of going with the Sheraton . Just discovered it is not 'needahotel.com' but 'reserveahotelonline.com'.Anyone know of them??
