Fisherman,

The coloured render systems cost in the region of €35 to €45 per m².

I have used them many times on houses but I dont feel i will use them again.

They cannot be repaired if damaged, They are impossible to keep clean, and it is dubious as to how they will last in the Irish climate.

I wouldnt advise their use on any house.

the system is in use in Japan,
the winters there are extreme and it is in use there.
they are sprayed on at at least 60mpa (normal concrete is about 20) so it's much harder and more durable
Also in AUS,NZ,US and CAN that I know of

A climate does not refer to purely hot or cold

Ireland has a unique climate in relation to wind, moisture, hot, cold, as a result of its location. All you have to do is go to a project that has had coloured render on it for a few years and see the mould, discolourations, and staining on them to give you an idea of what its like.

The system is a great idea and very useful but its two biggest problems are its practicality in that it cant be repaired and our climate as a whole. there are parts of the country I am sure it works fine but in general it dosent. These are two downfalls which cannot be argued with.

when people start to use excuses like, well in canada the winters are really cold and they use ..... i just switch off..... people have to realise that ireland has a unique climate...... and just because a technology works well abroad is no guarantee that it will work well here....

Have to agree with syd and kelliher, i cannot understand the trend for all the coloured renders, the amount of building around with patchy, discoloured finishes is shocking.

i have lived in all the countries I have mentioned and the most that is like this country for weather is New Zealand, or even a bit worse especially where I am from (southland) and no what i said was not a guarantee just telling you that I have used these products and system in these countries and they work. Contractors might not be doing correctly here but my jobs have never faded.
putting your head in the sand over a mere discussion and opinion isn't going to achieve much there sydthebeat.
I have this on my drive with a stencil pattern and it looks great so I have been told by other people who are in this line of work
opinions and advice and others experiences, i thought this is what this is for?
have a good day, the swell is good today so I'm going surfing in our lovely freezing atlantic

K-Rend through Irish Aggregates in Cork is about €11/m2 + p[lstering. Would have to agree with others not recommending a coloured render. Three major downfalls - it's expensive, it can't be patched and in sheltered/north facing walls it will attract mould. Have a look at a few jobs out there before you decide. Wish I had

I really wanted it for my house, but came across two examples that put me off. Both said they were permanently cleaning it to keep algae off, by rinsing it down with bleach............

Have to agree with galwaytt and ted. Currently living in a house finished with a sprayed colour render. We knocked out the orignal door and put in french patio doors, there were a few patch's that the builder touched up that I needed to paint in, and it's not very easy to match with the rendered finish. Mainly because if it's being touched up, it really should be done using the same render as originally used, which compared to buying paint and doing it yourseld is pricey and probably best done by a plasterer farmiliar with apply this kind of render.

Good luck.

even if you did buy the same render and patch it it will still look different. It must be all put on and dryout at the same time otherwise it will be a different colour irrespective.
