There's two types of people in this world:

People who think we should all hear their ring tone (on full volume), and people with a bit of sense who use silent or vibrate.

Which are you? :D

There are actually three types of people in the world; those that can count and those that can't :D

whats the difference between the regular phone ring tone/pitch and a mobile phone when it rings? should all our phones be on silent.. now that would be a relief for a few hours. :D

Well the mobiles seem to be about double the volume. My sensitive ears can handle an ordinary phone ringing, but when the theme tune to Sex and the City (someone else informed me of this ;) ) blasts aroud the office for what seems like an age as the person tries to lay their hands on it, I just can't take it. :(

People are always highly entertained by the Magnum P.I. theme on my mobile phone...
I have it on the loudest setting to make sure the people at the far end of the office can hear it and be entertained also...

I worked with a guy who had a special ringtone for his girlfriend - a recording of her screeching 'answer your phone' over and over and over and over.... He would often leave it unattended on his desk and it was THE most annoying thing ever.

Normal phone has a ringing cadence, e.g. 1sec on / 3sec off , while mobile phone have a continuous ringing , e.g. a song and not break.
Though you can set up some mobile to ring like a standard PSTN phone..

Well i would go for the vibrate/silent option not because i'm more sensible, more like considerate + i'd be a bit uneasy drawing attention to myself, especially if it was unnecessary attention. :)
