Re: Where to buy in Dublin

Very broad question which is difficult to answer without more information about your needs/preferences etc. €400K probably won't get you much close to the centre if that's what you mean.

Re: Where to buy in Dublin

You might be better off doing a search on MyHome or Daft for all of Dublin on your price range, seeing what areas are coming up and then asking for opinions.

Alternatively, search for areas on the Luas line that match your budget.

Does it have to be the Luas, or do DART and Commuter Rail meet your criteria as well?

You will find plenty of previous discussion by browsing Location, Location, Location.

Re: Where to buy in Dublin

Also have checked daft and found places just dont no Dublin that well.

Do you know yet what part of Dublin you will be working in? In any case, house prices seem to have steadied off or started to fall (e.g. rte), you are probably best off renting for a year or so until you know better what you're looking for.

I agree with earlier poster. As prices are a shifting a bit, buy near the Luas. Depends on your circumatance. Try Dutch village near Red Cow Luas Stop off the top of my head.

Do you know where you will be working yet? I think as close as possible to work makes life a lot easier.

I agree with previous posts, hold off until you know what location will suit best. However, in the meantime you should decide on what you need from the property: Are large gardens essential, 2/3/4/5 beds, detached/semi/terraced/duplex/apartment a major preference. Once you know what you NEED, you can start looking at areas in that price range and get some feedback. Does your 400k take account of stamp duty on 2nd hand homes or are you specifically looking for new builds?

No longer any SD on 2nd hand properties for FTBs in case that's relevant here. If bought a property in the US then you are not a FTB.
