Sky cutting off film on Channel 4

I was looking forward to watching 28 Days Later on Channel 4 on Sunday night (through Sky). I switched onto Ch 4 just as the previous program was finishing, and I watched the ads leading up to the film - no problem. All of a sudden, I got a blue screen with an error message which stayed for the duration of the film. All other channel were working fine.

Why would Sky or Channel 4 block a film being shown ?

Channel 4 through Sky will not show everything-something about other Irish channels having first rights.

It was fine on NTL cable. What was the error message?

I can't remember exactly, something along the lines of me not having authorization to view this channel.

I think CCOVICH may be right - RTE or TV3 may have the rights to braodcast this movie first in Ireland. Although that doesn't explain why you could see it on NTL cable...

It only applies to Sky as far as I am aware.

If this is the case then it would seem to undermine SKY's prominent advertising campaigns highlighting the fact that C4 is now available on their platform...? :(

Yes, but it's only really films that are affected as far as I am aware-plenty of other choices for films on Sky.

Yes - but it's surely misleading advertising at the very least.

I noticed this on Wikipedia but it may not relate directly to this specific incident?
From 4 December 2006 Channel 4 was officially available to Sky viewers in the Republic of Ireland; some programmes, mainly imports, are not aired on this channel variant, due to Channel 4 not owning the relevant broadcast rights within the country.
Unless the likes of NTL are considered a broadcaster and hold the rights for these programmes (including the movie in question here) or something?

Channel 4 films are regularly blocked here.
I read somewhere it was to do with broadcasting rights.

For this particular case, that movie was on one of the other channels on Sky recently and a lot of movies seem to do the rounds, so keep a look-out & you'll probably find it listed elsewhere soon.

Maybe instead of a blank screen, they could show us even more re-runs of Friends.

Maybe you should try again on the 22nd July ;)

It's not just films - certain things are blocked in the mornings too - Friends at about 9am if memory serves me. Can't think of others off hand. Very annoying.

same with the Sopranos recently even though they were showing series 6 which was RTE last year!
