I've copied all my old files from my old laptop using the wireless network with no problem, but am stuck when it comes to the emails.

Was using Outlook Express, and email messages were stored in C:\Documents and Settings\Myname\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{8D32D blah blah blah}\Microsoft\Outlook Express but when I look in Windows Explorer, I can only see folders as far as {8D32D... so I can't drag the old emails into a folder on the new laptop.

I've also tried selecting the emails in Outlook Express then right-clicking and choosing "Move to Folder..." but that only allows me to move to a folder in "Outlook Express"

There are about 1500 emails I want to keep, some have big attachments so I reckon it would take hours to send them all to my gmail account.

What can I do?

I don't think that you can just copy these files. For example the {8D32D blah blah} is most likely the Windows SID (Security Identifier) for the specific user account so is not portable to another PC. You may need some way of backing them up and then restoring them or importing them. Google should throw up something.

You need to export the mails from outlook express to a .pst file
THen you can copy this across and import it to the outlook on the other laptop

To export, right click on the personal folders and select import, export and follow the instructions.
This will export all mails in the foler
If you want to only move selected emails, you need to create a new personal folder, copy the required mails to that, then export that folder.

Thanks johndoe, Microsoft to the rescue - who'd have thunk it?!

Happily perusing my old emails now, new problem is setting up the old email address on the new laptop, it seems I'm using the wrong password  The excitement of having a new laptop is wearing off very fast!

Edited to add: eventually worked out what the password was, set it 4 1/2 years ago so brain gone a bit rusty!

Thanks for the help all :)
