Phone sending messages by itself!

Hi all

I have a Nokia phone which has stared acting up. This is a recurrent problem. It started by sending blank text messages to people in my contact list (starting at the top). It sent up to 15 messages to one person over a week. I sent the phone back (under warranty) and was assured the problem was fixed. Now (about 2 months later) it has started sending messages this time with an image file attached. Does anyone know anything about this? I suppose I could return it again but I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience? I was also assured it wasn't a virus (and my keypad is locked).

Does your keypad lock automatically or do you lock it yourself. My name is normally at the top to peoples lists and I get text messages and phone calls coz people put their phones in their pockets/bags without locking them first.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

The keypad locks by itself. Re restoring the factory settings I'll give that a try although I think it's more serious than that since it was away for repair for about two weeks the last time it did this.

i would think this would'nt be a phone problem or hardware issue

However the phone was changed but is the SIM card the same on both

My boyfriend has a nokia phone and for some reason his phone was sending saucy pics as well for no reason

Now i could have said ya right it sent a saucy pic to contacts
But would some one send a saucy pic to his own mother , and was initially given out like murder by his mam over it ,

u can imagine how feeble it was saying i did'nt send it i swear it was my phone !!!

i'd check that the Sim card does'nt have any issues with it , or see if the phone center has checked that

If the phone is not upgraded to the latest available firmware for that model then maybe doing so would help?

When I sent the phone in for repair they upgraded the software, (it was less than a year old in any case). O2 advised me to swap to SIM into another phone to see if it makes a difference.

Sounds like a virus, i remeber hearing that there were some on mobile phones to what extent I don't know, but the general behaviour sounds like one

I think it's a 6620. Re being a virus I agree it does sound like it. But the people in O2 checked this out the first time it happened (ie when it was just sending blank messages) and they said it wasn't a virus.

I wasn't aware phones could be upgraded, I have a nokia 6101, how would i upgrade firmware on that? Would i bring it to the Car Phone Warehouse? Or can i do it locally?

Thanks.

Most service centres can do it. Some firmware upgrades can be sourced and applied by the owner assuming that the relevant data cable etc. is available. For your specific phone you may find something . If you don't know what you're doing then don't do it!
