Removal of burnt-out car

We woke up at 5am this morning to see the car across the road alight - causeda right old mess on the road and now there is a burnt out car there. The guards were on the road this morning taking pictures etc as i think there is alot more to this than one burnt out car.

Anyway, i'm just wondering is it the owners responsibility to remove the car? If it is, I reckon it'll be chucked there and never moved.

Anyone out there know?

a tired and cranky AAM reader......

AFAIK it's the local council who gather up the burnt out cars in the area

i assume the owners would have to ask for it to be removed though?? .........much as i'd love to ring on their behalf!

If it only happened at 5am this morning, would you not give them at least a few hours to get their heads around the fact that their car is gone and get it sorted before you start complaining? Unless of course there is something about these neighbours that makes you think they won't do anything.

We had a car stolen and burnt out once. It was removed without anyone contacting us, in fact it was gone before the insurance assessor saw it. I think the guards/local council deal with burnt out cars.

There is unfortunately alot about these neighbours that make me think it wont be moved. The car was set alight outside their house which seemed to some form of payback or vengeance. Worrying stuff! Hopefully I'll be proved wrong in this case but i doubt it. Will give it a week and see if it goes.

There was a car burnt out near our area recently. I presumed that it was stolen and dumped but perhaps it was just an accident. Anyway Dublin City Council came around within 2 days and removed it and cleaned up. I don't know if anybody called them out but I guess that this would help to expedite matters. This incident was on a public road and not a private estate in case that makes any difference.

Yes it was on a public roadway so good to know that it wont take forever once the call is made. Todays rain should wash down the black road and pavements anyway!

thanks

I remember phoning the police a few years ago regarding a burned out car near me, and the guard asked if the number plates were still on it. When I said no, he said "That's grand, I'll pass it on to the litter warden so. If the plates were still on then we'd have to deal with it." Car was gone within a couple of days.

This litter.ie page gives contact info to report problems in many counties, it might have the relevant one for you.

My car was maliciously burnt out last January. I had to pay €100 to remove it and €337.50 to Fire Brigade to put out fire.

I dont really know the neighbours to talk to so cant ask who removed the car but it was gone within 3 days. Whoever removed it didnt clean up as suggested in earlier replies, so there was alot of glass and remnants left there.

On a completely different note, my friend had a fire last week when her gas patio heater spontaneously combusted. The fire brigade came out but they said there was no fee?? When do you have to and when do you not have to pay the fire brigade? 337.50 is alot!

Surely something that concerned neighbours could sort out for themselves?

[broken link removed] Sounds like the charges may be discretionary in some cases and probably vary between local authories.

Honestly, i would be a little intimidated by these particular neighbours so tend to keep my head down and stay away. Anyway, they did get the car removed so i was a happy camper for the weekend.
