Hi,

Water tank burst in my car last week and whilst driving it (didnt realise it could happen) the timing belt snapped and the valves in the head gasket were wrecked.

Just got a quote for 1100 -1400 for replacement of the three items mentioned and also for labour. Does that seem like alot?

Water tank or pump? A new engine might be cheaper.

I think you are a little confused on some engine terms btw. The head gasket seperates the engine block and cylinder head. It's like a thick piece of card. The valves most likely were hit by the pistons.

No doubt i am confused alright. It was the water pump. The sar is a 00 renault megane. Had looked to trade it in a few weeks ago and got offered €2500-€3000.

I'd buy and fit a used engine tbh. €500 maybe?

Try breakers yards locally and also up North.

Would it not work out at about the same price after being fitted.

Got the same job done on a renault megane (power steering pully came loose and threw the fan belt into the timing belt!) about a year ago cost 1300. 16 new valves, head gasket skimmed, new tb & tensioners.

I considered getting a new engine, but I decided to stick with the devil I knew seeing as the price was about the same
