FF and the Greens.....

......a match made in Heaven? I don't think so. What is going on here? The dogs in the street know that a Government consisting of these two parties wouldn't last as long as bio-degradable rice paper. Why are FF spending so long "in talks" with the Greens. Is it a smoke screen designed to make the Independents jealous and therefore more willing to support FF for fewer concessions? If so, it's very transparent. Does anyone really believe that the Green party will do business with FF.? Even if their TD's agree to a deal, how do they get it passed by party members who have being fighting FF for years? Maybe I'm just too cynical but is a FF/Green government a viable option?

It's not just the Greens. FF will also do a deal with the PDs and three Independents driving a hard bargain with all, then I reckon they'll elect an opposition Ceann Comhairle. When the Greens walk the Government(83) will continue with FF TDs filling freed up posts.

You seem to have made your mind up already so what's the point in discussing this?

To me, FF and Greens are a viable option. After the debacle of McDowell having to row in behind Bertie in his hour of need, despite his (Mick's) declared high ethical standards, anything is possible in politics.

In a way, it mightn't be a bad thing....the Greens are inexperienced in government but will know enough to keep the FFers on their toes, particularly with transport/infrastructure adn environmetn/waste management...two issues FF can be a bit gung ho about.

If they do get in, the Hill of Tara might be saved !!! I'm all for them getting in if that's the case....bye bye Dick Roche !!!

Hopefully Bertie will use the opportunity to drop kick Cullen and Roche by gifting their posts to the Greens.

I really wonder when the M3 is finally built will we look back and wonder what the fuss was all about? Some years ago there was similar doom and gloom about the "destruction" of the Glen of the Downs. Once the road was built, everyone realised that the "anti" lobby had grossly exaggerated the environmental impact of the road. Maybe Tara is different, but its hard to forget the story of the boy who cried wolf...

Bertie will definitely NOT sack either Cullen or Roche. In Bertie's book, electoral considerations in Waterford and Wicklow matter far more than competence or leadership qualities. Expect Cullen to be Minister for Defence or Community Affairs. Roche will end up in a similarly low-profile role such as Social & Family Affairs.

Expect Cullen to be Minister for Defence

...what! that could potentially lead to use being invaded by the likes of Trinidad or even the Vatican! We need a gun tottin' - no nonsense - asskickin' Minister like Willie O'Dea to ensure our borders are protected!

Assuming the Greens, PDs and FF agree... pick your ministers. Environment and Transport for the Greens? Harney back in Health?

Sounds about right I'd say. Can't see the greens expecting much more than that and who else would want health? Bound to be conflict between PDs and Greens though in a lot of areas - not least health. Despite what Brian Cowen might feel I do think the Greens could have a 'civilising' affect on FF...

What, like the PD's did and Labour before them? Labour were in bed with them at the height of all the planning corruption and they didn't see a thing. At least the PD were better (or had better timing).

well as the financial disclaimer goes 'past performance is no guarantee...' etc

Do you see the indignant bristling of his moustache being used as a coastal defense? Or possibly to trap enemy bogeys?

Mmmmm, to get other opinions? Isn't that the point of discussion? Isn't this a discussion forum? I'm new here so if I've offended any sensibilities by asking for opinions on this, just let me know.

Edit: just for the record, I've no party preferences in politics, I'm just an interested observer.
