Planning trip to Australia.Hope to stay there to work for 4 months
and spend 2 months travelling home towards Ireland. At 46 am I too old
to get a work visa? Is it possible to get visa for such a short time?
Would appreciate any information or suggestions.

The working holiday visa is for 18-30 yr olds.

Have you looked at the [broken link removed]website to see if you are eligible for any other types of visas?

Unsure of timeframe as you haven't advised when you are thinking of going. It is most probably dependent on the type of visa you get.

Best of luck.

You are too old for the working Visa.

On a wider note, You're never too old to travel / backpack Oz.

It's the place I hope to retire in....drive around in my Campervan

Also, I hear from Australians whom I know that if you worked without a visa its really difficult to get cash in hand work there.

About retiring in Oz.......I heard that foreigners have to have loads of money before the government of Oz allows them to retire into Australia. Do youi know if that's true?

Thanks for replies. Hoping to go in Oct. Same criteria for New Zealand?

According to an article in the Sunday Times recently - "Over 55 and no relatives? Try an investor retirement visa. You renew it every four years, and must have assets of at least A$750,000 to invest"

Ardman if you have a reasonable amount of capital you may not need to work in Australia. Euro goes a long way out there. Same goes for NZ - goes even further.

You can pick up the odd job fruit picking or such but they don't give you the same wages so might not be worth the risk.

Do you have a property that you can rent out here while you're away ?
I know someone who was able to do it that way. His rental here kept him in funds while he travelled for more than a year.

Have considered renting home while I travel but also have dependable
person in mind to mind home and pay the bills.Haven't decided which
yet. Contacting Oz embassy tomorrow. Good idea.
