Builder Ridiculous Quote

I guess there's a small chance they'd report you on the basis of a single question, but I doubt it. It also depends on how you phrase the question..
I agree. I still think there are ways of doing this without having to essentially slander oneself as suggested above.

I'm actually in this situation at the moment. Having agreed a price of X + VAT, I've been presented with an invoicve for X + VAT. Only thing is, there's no VAT number on the invoice. My next stage is as above.....
Well, if the invoice contains a VAT charge but there's no VAT number on it, then it isn't valid and shouldnt be paid

If it isn't, there's no way I'd pay a 21% premium on an agreed price.
Should this not be 13.5% if its building work?

That is a ridiculous price. I got what you are talking about done two years ago plus a garage conversion, 40 sq meters of elevated hard wood decking, all of downstairs done in solid Oak flooring and doors for 35k. Get at least 2 more quotes as it sound to me like you should pay 12k max. LS.

you should pay 12k max

Lightswitch how have you come up with this figure? Have you called around and inspected the extent of the works required?

I`d agree about getting a number of quotes as you said, but to assume the first builder was over 100% more expensive is dreaming.

I deal with tens of millions of euros worth of construction projects every year. I also have a background as a small builder and have never heard of such drastic diffrences.
