Hello.. I'm relocating from midlands to Lucan with my Partner and baby. We are not familiar with the area and were just wondering could anyone give us advice on good areas and estates etc. We have viewed some houses and are aware that St. Marys parish is supposidly the best area for schools etc? We liked in particular as estate called Esker Meadows but again are not familiar with the area so was wondering did it have good reputation and is it quiet?? My partner works in City centre and was thinking of taking the bus instead of driving.. if anyone knows the bus routes we would be very grateful!! Please help!! :)

Re: Buying in Lucan??

Hi there are welcome to AAM.

You are sure to find plenty of previous discussion on AAM relating to Lucan.

Re: Buying in Lucan??

Hi, Thank you. I did find one old thread from 2005 but doesnt mention esker meadows and its a little out of date but any new info would be a great help thanks!

Re: Buying in Lucan??

I think you will find many more thread with the term 'Esker'

Buses 25, 25A,25X 66, 66A, 66B, 66X 67, 67A, 67X

These will drop you to O'Connell bridge at least and the X's go on to Waterloo road and/or Belfield.

There are also Morton buses but you should check their website for info.

Lucan is fairly quiet in general . Traffic is a pain though !!

thats great thank a mill! Do you know which estates are nice? I see in previous threads the traffic seems to be a huge proplem!

Beech Park, Cherbury Park, Lucan Heights , Beech Grove , Chalet Gardens, Esker Lawns , Roselawn are nice estates within walking distance from the village and the schools around the village (but by no means the only ones)

These would be considered "old" Lucan. On the far side of the dual carrigeway is known as "new" Lucan.(Apart from Hillcrest and some others). The newer areas are generally serviced by the 25A while the rest of the buses head down the dual carrigeway or through the village.

To be honest I couldnt really name an estate to avoid. Estates that were deemed to be rough years ago seem to have quietened down.

Where exactly is Esker Meadows ? There seems to be loads of estates with Esker in the name and I can't place it !

I'm living in Esker Meadow since built in 1998. Very quiet estate that has matured nicely in the intervening years. Very close to Griffeen Valley Park (which has a great childrens playground). Also close to shops so you don't have to drive everywhere!
Bus service has been improved recently with more 25x. If only they wouldn't all come at the same time!!!
I use bus to city centre every day instead of driving. Takes about 40 minutes from Penny Hill to Bachelors Walk at around 8am. Takes a bit longer to get home in the evening as buses have to depart from Pearse St. and city centre traffic can be dreadful in the evening.
Despite some negative comments others may have I'm happy living in Lucan.
Hope this helps!!!

I have friends living in Esker Meadows and they are very happy there. I believe there is also a very good residents association. The houses are quite spacious too with the sunroom as standard on most of them.

May I suggest if you are commuting to city centre by bus you should look at the East side of Lucan, reason being you are last on the bus leaving Lucan (seats can be got owing to the recent increase in buses) and you are first off the bus in the evenings. The difference in time spent on the bus is significate. Also you have a full range of buses to choose from ie 67/66/25/25A etc and only a short walk to some of the surrounding estates.

Estates in this area would include:
St Andrews
Hermitage
Willsbrook
Woodville
Bewley

Car traffic is an issue, but it is everywhere, buses have a bus lane most of the way into town with the odd exception on the N4 which they are working on. Please PM if you require any more specific info on the area.

I would have thought that Esker Meadows would fall under this category judging by is close proximity to all of them. Just for Gullivers sake as he does not know Lucan well and he likes the houses in Esker Meadows.
