Credit card fraud

I seem to have been hit by fraud on my credit card. Have gone through it with my bank and they say they will investigate it.
I only use my card for mainly online buying, tickets etc. Only use Paypal with ebay sellers.
I have the latest firewall, anti virus etc..
My question is, when I log into my bank online, can anyone see the actual page displayed on screen? What about a member of our broadband provider?
Confused as to how someone got details

There are all sorts of possible explanations - e.g. somebody skimmed/cloned your card, somebody close to you nicked the details, somebody auto-generated your card number and managed to transact business with somebody who didn't do extensive checks on the payment (this used to be more common in the past - and I was hit by it myself - but should not happen so much these days) etc. Normally online banking pages are encrypted (SSL) so should be end to end (i.e. bank to customer) secure.

Websites can get hacked and your details could get stolen that way. A corrupt member of staff at one of the companies could have taken your details. Loads of ways it can happen.

Happened to me also recently. €697.00 for a camera shop in the UK when I was in Spain on the date concerned. Therefore, no where near my p.c. to do a purchase online and also in another country so couldn't have been me personally. MBNA credited it back to me but said that if a further investigation turns up any thing else they will recharge my card. I know I won't have any problem cos it was definitely not me.

However, it is very frustrating as they would not give me any info regarding it and told me that it could have been a simple mistake of someone inputting 1 digit wrong which resulted in my card being charged. Rather than being rude and saying do you think I was born yesterday, I just said, right, fine.

I too would love to know how it happened, as I am so so super careful when purchasing online and paranoid about my card leaving my person when paying for a meal. So it really beats out how they got my info/details. Guess I'm just going to have to live with it that I'm never going to get to the bottom of it.

Bear in mind that once a card has been compromised you should cancel it and get a replacement.

Thanks Clubman, but believe it or not, I actually thought of that and said it to the person I dealt with in MBNA. I was told, Oh no, there's no need to do that, it was just a once off and won't happen again.!!!!

A friend said just to phone them and say it was stolen and then they would have to issue a new one, cos I would certainly love to know how they can be so sure it won't happen again. It makes me even more convinced that there was something more than dodgy about this transaction that they won't reveal to me. Anyway, never mind, not going to get hung up over it. :)

I would not take this "advice". I would cancel the card and get a new one.
