Hi Guys,

Looking for opinions please :D

I'm thinking of getting a mini cooper with the chilli pack just wondering what people think ??

The drive, the handling and depreciation etc.... want the positive and negitive. Any mini owners out there ??

We bought one recently...great fun to drive and hold their value better than almost any marque.
 
By all accounts they are a great car in almost every respect. Personally, my only niggle would be the price - very expensive for not an awful lot of car.

A fair point but as I said earlier they do hold their value to an almost ridiculous level.

They're fine if you make sure the passenger seat is adjustable (this is an optional extra-not expensive, €100 maybe?)
I'm tall and I've no problem driving it or being a passenger. In fact, it's great fun to drive!
 
I had a cooper S with chilli pack....great car, loved it. It was the car I actually owned the longest. Providing you're stylish, love cars, love driving, don't carry more than one passenger often and don't need boot space then its a winner in every sense.
Engine is fine but its the chassis that really thrills. Drives like a kart. I had the first of the reincanations which I thought was brilliant, especially as it was quite rare then. Drove brilliantly and I recently test drove the new mini and it was even better which is saying something for a small car.
I actually bought mine 4 yrs ago in Belfast before I move to Dublin. Sold it last year and actually made €1000 from the price I bought it from....mine appreciated! Thats VRT for u
 
If you can stretch to a new one, it's much improved: particularly the engine and general quality of fit and finish.

Highly recommended: the only downsides are the general lack of space and poor standard spec (ideally get one with a/c). The high price is more than made up for by what's probably the lowest depreciation of any car on the market.

Also, watch out if you're looking at a Cooper S: there's a big difference in insurance costs between that and the regular Cooper.

100 euro for an adjustable seat?? Do they charge for the steering wheel aswell??
 
I like them.

I rented a Cooper S in the UK and had great fun with it. The supercharger whined quite loudly and it was heavy on fuel for a 1.6, but it was plenty quick and handled well.

The "ordinary" Cooper is well suited for Irish conditions. Standard spec. is a bit mean however. Extras are not cheap either. Avoid massive wheels as they ruin the ride quality.

Depreciation wise they do very well.
 
My wife is on her second, the Mini One. She loves it. It is great to drive (she has let me do so a few times!!) and looks fantastic, very comfortable and the acceleration is top class. The 1.6 engine is very smooth.

I agree the extras are expensive (she insisted on the sliding roof....an extra €1,200) but these extras will hold their value on the re sale and ensure it sells very quick) Selling privately is the best way to go.

They hold their value exceptionally well. Right now she is looking at the New model Cooper and I know she will do great on the sale of the One.
 
I think there is a new Mini Cooper coming out late this year, so you may pick up a bargain on the latest model. Check out www.honestjohn.co.uk for an independent guide. There are other independent reviews on various other sites (what car etc) , just google and see what you come up with.
 
If you want a Cooper, don't buy one. Just get the Mini One with the goodies you want and then chip the engine.

Saves you a fortune.

There's not...the model was changed last November.

Firefly, I should have specified that the €100 was for a height adjustable seat (i.e. up and down)

Not possible on the latest model, where they the difference in engine power is based on difference in capacity rather than state of tuning.

Apart from usual problems with chipping (void warrenty etc.).

Speaking of warrenties, one other thing to consder is that you can get an option that covers the cost of servicing for the 1st few years (I can't recall how many). It's a bargain and transfers to subsequent owners so might be availbale on some 2nd hand ones out there: well worth getting.

A girl i live with test drove all of the various mini's over the past couple of weeks and ended up buying a mini cooper sport...better all round she reckons - a tip - she bought it in the north and even with the vrt she still ended up paying less than the mini cooper 1 - g'luck
