Mars products no longer vegetarian

Yeah heard this - not very sensitive is it? I'm not even a veggie but I know plenty. They seemingly couldn't even be bothered giving a proper reason - which probably means the real reason is just that it's easier for them and to hell with vegetarians. But you would think they would be worried about a backlash - and confectionary business is very competitive

I only found out last week that Jellie Babies and Fruit Pastiels contain Beef gelatine.....

Yuck !!

no more of them for me !

I cant understand why they cant make these things without that crap in them.

You can eat jelly tots and I think starburst (possibly only starburst sours but I definitely saw the veggie logo on one of the packs a while ago).

I discovered veggie jelly in Holland and Barrett a while ago and it's yum. M&S do a raspberry jelly with raspberries in it that's suitable for vegetarians. These might help to make up for the lack of sweets!

If God had intended us to be vegetarians he wouldn't have made animals out of meat.

I thought everyone had stopped using beef gelatine since the outbreaks of mad cow!

Homer Simpson?

We spent millions of years getting to the top of the food chain. Vegetarianism is an evolutionary retrograde step ;)

Having read this, I googled the Natural Confectionary Company (the Australian sweets) in the hope that they'd be a suitable alternative to the beefy jellys.....but they've got beef gelatine too (Australian beef though, as if that makes a difference!).

I hated the taste of meat as a child and had to be forced to eat it. I think if "god" had wanted me to eat meat he would have made animals out of asparagus or tomatoes or something else tasty!

Cahir - if its only the taste that bothers you as opposed to the concept itself the additive shouldn't bother you as you won't taste it in a mars bar - so enjoy!

I still don't see the point in murdering an animal for a mars bar.

God didn't - but some 6 year old did by the looks of things!

I don't think that these are GMOs! :D

What really irritated me about Mars bars was they actually made them smaller then relabelled them with 'Mars the big one.' .. who are they kidding ?

I thought gelatin was made from bones. The OP suggests that Mars are now using beef gelatin in their product. Wasn't the use of beef bones stopped when mad cow (CJD) was found in animals. Beef on the bone was banned too. Has the ban been lifted?
