Should I change credit cards?

I think I may shop around for a better credit card, I bank with AIB and have an AIB student credit card (I'm no longer a student), I love being able to pay my bill online via the AIB website, so I would like to stick with AIB but I'm flexible and I could switch banks no problem.

So my card usage is as such: I've a limit of 3,700euro, I'm rarely in the red, I use it mainly for online purchases, and I generally don't buy anything that I can't pay off there and then. So for the most part I'll have a balance of 0 at the end of most months.

I'm just wondering if anyone can suggest a card that might offer me more benefits or rewards, or maybe it's not worth switching.
I've no idea what my interest rates are on the card or anything, I just haven't got up off my This post will be deleted if not edited to remove bad language to look into alternatives and maybe get the most bang for my buck.

Thanks in advance.

Amex Blue offers you 1% cashback-but is not widely accepted.

The AIB Platinum Card offers 0.1% cashback-hardly worth it.

Ryanair, Pigsback and Tesco (among others) offer cards that give 'rewards' but these are only useful in what I consider to be fairly limited circumstances.

There is a thread on rewards and cash in the Best Buys forum that may have more suggestions.

For me, being to pay and view your bill online is more important than any rewards I've seen.

Thank you for the heads up.

I've read the thread and it seems that the Tesco one would be the best option as I get my petrol and shop there but after reading delboys account and the lack of internet facilities (actually mainly the lack of net facilities) means I'll probably stick with what I have.

Cheers

I agree online facilities are always a bonus but you might be able to get this with Tesco. The Tesco card is provided by Ulster bank. Open an Ulster bank current account and use their online banking. There is a specific option to register a Tesco cards on the payment section. I’m not sure if can view all the transactions but it would be worth inquiring. Regardless of whether you use the current account for anything else other then viewing/paying credit card the account is still free… That’s all I use mine for

You may be able to pay the Tesco bill through UB online banking (in fact I'd say you can do it with any banks online facility), but you cannot view the bill unless things have changed in the past 6 months.

I'm sorry, I know I said pay my cc online but what I actually meant was, that I liked the option to view the transactions and pay them off pretty much as they come through online, this allows me to control my spending and keep my credit card and therefore its costs at zero.
So being able to pay the bill online is just a small part of it, I guess I should have illiterated that point further.

Thanks again

If you want to stick with AIB, then give them a bell and ask for the "be" card - its just a new card. They should just send you out a form to fill in your old card number and sing it. You will then get the new card and balance/limit should be all switched over (inlcuding 24 hour banking etc.)

I think the standard APR might be the same as you student card though but the be card has an facility that if you pay off the mnimum every month (i.e no missd payments) then the APR goes down to 14.9.

Just check that your student card doesnt have a lower APR first!!

ALso have a look at in the best buy forum for CC rates.

(Halifax are reportably very choosy on who the accept though - according to reports!!)

The AIB Platinum Card offers 0.1% cashback-hardly worth it.

From AIB.ie

The Platinum Card includes a special offer of 0.5% cash back, on purchase spends over EUR5,000 (maximum EUR50,000) in a 12 month period. The cash back awards are calculated on a monthly basis and credited to your account on the statement date each month. Applies from the date the account is opened, and at the end of each 12 month period the offer will restart. Terms and conditions apply.

Mea cupla-I actually have the card!

Either way, it's not much-I prefer the convenience of being able to view my bill online (you can do this with other banks) and I also have my current account with AIB.

The maximum cash back from AIB is €25 in a 12 month period.

I think you have to earn over 50K to qualify for platinum card- so AIB told me!!!!!!!!!

not to be nit-picking on you but you potentially can earn up to €225 (45k @ 0.5%). However I agree that it is not much in relative terms.

I have the card myself, mainly as I like AIB's online system and because of excellent service in the past 10yrs regarding problems such as lost/stolen cards and disputed transactions.

Aah, now I see, you must spend over €5k and then the qualifying amount is capped at €50k-my reading was that the maximum amount for 12 months was €5,000, and the maximum amount (lifetime) was €50,000.

Your interpretation makes more sense-cheers!
