Finger Marks on Paint

I just purchased a 00 Renault Scenic for our second car. Great car in good condition with alloys, a/c, electric windows, etc. great value and I could not walk away. The only downside with it is that on the paintwork, which is a metallic silver, there are blemishes caused by little handprints. I think they might have bben caused by vinegar or grease on the hands of the previous owners children. Is there anything I can do to get rid of these? they do not rub off obvioulsy enough and it is like if they have taken the metallic out of the paint if you can get my drift. Any ideas would be most welcome.

Try a little bit of petrol on a rag (must be very soft material, no colours) and that will get rid of almost anything. Wont damage paint work as long as you don't do it in direct sunlight.

I tried the petrol and it did not clean them off. Someone suggested to me that I use T-Cut but I did not think you could use that on metallic paint. Can you?

It is a polish, so will take off some of the top layer. Metallic paint has a clear top layer over the coloured paint. That is why it should not be used on Metallic paint. Saying that, it should do the job for you. Try it on a small spot first and just use it as required to take the marks off.

Sorry to butt in - but what about the petrol option on metallic paint (out of sunlight)

Was thinking of this for tar spots and bug splats - is it any better or worse than using the marketed products for these things?

Id say suncream was the cause as that's what happened my car so do not let your kids near the car with suncream, no clue how to get it off though, I had mine compounded and it's still there.

Caveat, Depends really, We always have a bit of petrol around in cans for lawnmores and chainsaws etc so it's easiest and cheapest way to sort it.

If you do it in the sunlight, as petrol evaporate's when you put it on a car in direct sunlight it leaves a white film on the car and that takes ages to get off.

Have used Tar&Glue remover in a spray can before, very good and quick to use but worked out fairly expensive.

for those 'white' marks and also tar spots you get on metallic paint I use turtle wax in the same colour as the painwork. use a soft cloth and just keep putting new liquid polish onto the cloth every few mins. might do the trick. I have removed scruff marks, tar spots this way.
