making paint colour lighter

I have been searching for ages for the right shade of green for my kitchen/dining area. I eventually have found one that is almost perfect (Devine Olive - Colortrend) but its a bit too dark.

Just wondering can i add some white paint & mix it fully - will this work to give me the same colour just a bit lighter or will i completley mess it up???

I would get the paint shop to do it for you as they have a special machine. They don't normally charge for this but will want a good idea of the end-colour you require.

why not get a tester of the Devine Olive and add a bit of white to it in drops and see how it turns out?

otherwise, do as mct1 says

Not sure if you can just add paint but i would definately bring it back to the shop for advise first because a) its acrylic paint so anything added would have to be the same and b) the paint is too expensive to mess about and let it go wrong. Also the shop will have the colortrend machine to mix any addition through properly.

I painted one wall on the dining area of my kitchen Colortrend Select I love it but took a long time and a fortune in colour samples to get the one i liked. Gooseberry actually goes on much darker to what its like when it dries, so if you do try it, dont freak out initially! Prefered the select range to the DeVine reange myself - paint went on nicer, and you can get the select range in matt or sheen - think i went for matt but couldn't be 100% till i check. Fab paint brand though!

Ask the shop to mix it lighter than the tester card, they'll have no problem doing this e.g. if you are buying 5Ltrs ask for a 4Ltr. tint.

oh gooseberry was another colour i was looking at. i have spent a fortune on testers & haev to decide by tomorrow which one to go with! Might try get the gooseberry - is it warm looking, without making the room look dark? IYKWIM

wall in question is approx 14", kitchen length about double that. painted all the other three walls (of course have tiling, kitchen presses (ash) etc on kitchen end) with gooseberry on the end dining wall - makes a feature wall. Fairly big kitchen and is south west facing so IMO it really warms up the kitchen and doesn't in the least bit look dark....trying to think of a way to describe it ...it's not a harsh green, people have commented on how nice it is - even my dad who said i was mad to go for green, he has a bit of aversion to green since he painted a whole room in a very deep dark jungley green years ago - yuck!!!

Thanks sloggi - ended up going for the gooseberry, in 5L but with a 4l tint. It turned out great. Thanks for the recommendation
