Champions League Final - rant !!

As a massive Liverpool supporter I felt I needed to say something about the Champions League Final match in Athens next month (23rd of May).

The price of a package trip to Athens through Abbey Travel all depends on who wins tonights match between Man Utd and AC Milan. If Milan win, the price of the package trip (return flights, 1 night hotel, match ticket & transfers) will cost €1999 per person plus €65 tax. BUT if Man Utd win the same package will cost €3249 plus €65 tax. An extra €1250..... For what though? I understand that a Liverpool - Man Utd game would be totally different to a Liverpool AC Milan game in terms of demand for tickets, but the difference is a complete RIP OFF !!!

ABBEY TRAVEL claim that they dont but they tickets for "face value", that they infact but them through a ticket agency. However, UEFA sold all tickets as far as i'm aware through a Lottery system a couple of months back. You needed to register through www.uefa.com and if successful were given a ticket for the match but at the time you didnt know who would be playing. I wasn't successful with my application.

Cheapest ticket price through UEFA at the time was only about €60 I think.

Two years ago when Liverpool played AC Milan in that famous final in Istanbul, ABBEY TRAVEL arranged a DAY Return package for €1400. I had asked them how much would it be to travel there and back again as I had sourced a ticket through Liverpool Football Club themselves. Abbey Travel told me that it would cost €800 for travel only. So this means that they were selling a match ticket for €600.

What is the difference between these "so called" travel agents who organise football trips and ticket touts ??

I for one will never ever give my hard earned money to Abbey Travel, not even for a holiday to spain or portugal...

That is terrible. They are no better than the touts that hang around outside grounds. Unfortunantly someone will pay it though!:(

I missed the final in Barcelona 8 years ago, and would love to see a Man U - Liverpool final, but I can't justify €3-4K for a two day trip. It is a disgraceful mark up, but that industry has always been based on demand. A weeks holidays in Spain or Greece costs twice as much during school holidays as it does during term. A Man U - Liverpool final would be the biggest club match with the greatest demand for tickets ever.

God I hope we get through tonight!!

I emailed Abbey this morning, and couldn't believe the Package costs they sent back. My BF was listening to radio (think today fm) and there is uproar with fans over the costing by Abbey.

Its expensive enought at 2k, but to add on an additonal €1.25k for Man U? Im afriad to say RIP OFF, as I know clubman will say "they clearly highlight the cost".. *L*

As my friend said to me when i told her the price... are the seats dipped in GOLD!!!

Imagine how peeved working class supporters from Liverpool and Manchester must feel.

UPDATE:

prices for the Liverpool - AC Milan package are now priced at €2299 + €65 tax.... A €300 increase since yesterday... but the package is slightly different after I had been told yesterday that another package would not be available by ABBEY TRAVEL.

I believe there are cheap flights and plenty of availability from Manchester Airport to Athens on the 23rd of May ;)

Man Utd & Their WAGS are in the west end today auditioning for the parts of Danny and Sandy...

It's a last ditch attempt for a chance to play in Grease.... ;)

There is going to be a 3rd and 4th place Champions League play off this year....
Its being played at Wembly and they are calling it.....

the FA Cup !!!!

Price Update:

same package has gone up by another €200 in 1 day !!! now stand at €2499 + €65 taxes...

How can the genuine fan now afford this without going into serious debt ?

Most can't, some can, hence the price. Personally I think football fans get a raw deal from the teams they support and the TV channels they support but as long as demand is there it will continue. (someone has to pay for Ronaldos new 150k/week contract)

Liverpool FC charge £32-£34 for a ticket to all League matches in Anfield.. How is that a raw deal ???

OK That's not bad but look at Chelsea's prices for the season, between 50 and 90 Euro per Premiership game. The All Ireland final ticket costs between 30 and 75Euro . United increased their prices by 12% for the 2007 season.
How much is an football shirt these days? How ofter are they "upgraded"?
How much does a Sky Sports package cost?

Look, I don't care how and what football supporters spend their money on, but from where I stand it's not good value for money. I think the big clubs and TV stations cash in on the "fanaticism" of the fans,
