I know I am a bit late with this, but can anyone suggest where 4 honest men might lay down their heads on the Monday and Tuesday of Race Week-we have the designated driver!!so we can travel out a little but we want to savour the atmosphere and the pints too,so fairly close to Galway nonetheless-also none of us is in the first flush of youth so we want somewhere nice without being fleeced. Thanks in advance.

Why not post in the forum in case anyone else is interested in the answer?

2 reasons. aam has a strict no advertising policy and also i send him a telephone number and without the owners permission i dont want to publish it over the internet.

It can be very hard to get accommodation in Galway, but Bord Failte (or whatever it is now) should be able to help you as they will have a hugh database of all types of accommodation.

I wouldn't trust a man called Hugh Database! :D

you could try www.crookhaven.net its about 8 min walk to quay st

u should try for a b and b if u have trouble finding a hotel. i know a few families who open their houses up just for the races in the castlegar area, its just off the tuam road.

Do a check for every B&B in Galway city on this website. It's the Bord Failte website. Then, go to the last page and start ringing, starting with the last one listed and work your way backwards. Most people start at the beginning of the list so they will all be unavailable. Trust me on this :)

I've had to do this several times but you will always find somewhere.

Also, try the Marriott in Galway. It usually has a few rooms available online but it's around the €200 mark per night.

Avoid b & b's on college road as they charge around 150 per room per night around this time well several of them do anyway.

Corrib village offers B&B. You can get a chalet to yourselves reasonable enough or you can just get individual rooms. Its belongs to the university and is about 15 minutes walk from Eyre square. Haven't stayed there for a few years but booked late before no problem.
