Hi,
i put a 200euro booking fee down on the new modle toyotacorolla luna saloon in January,i was told that the car would be ready for collection in April.I rang the salesman in early April & he told me that the car would not arrive in April & he could not tell me when it would arrive. He also offered me the 200euro deposit back.I told him that i would wait & pointed out that the milage was increasein on the car i was tradeing in,he said that this was fine as the garage was obliged to stand over original deal.I rang again the other day & again he could not tell me when new car would arrive though he did say that the garage were having a meeting with toyota this week & hopefully this would help to shed some light on the situation.I know this modle is popular but i find it strange that i can't be given a date for delivery. Is this type of situation normal ?

Unfortunately, it is quite common.
You can try ringing other garages, but you might find that if one garage cant get one, that there are none hanging around forecourts waiting to be sold.

I have heard so many stories like this over the years, that it sounds like there is little connection between what is ordered by dealers and what actually appears off the boat from the factory.

Dont forget, The factories are very far away and in global terms, Ireland is a very small market for cars. I suspect that Irish dealers have little clout.

Thanks for replys,
i dont mind having to wait, its just that i dont understand why i can't be given a rough date even if its another 3mths away.Just have to hang in there i guess.

That puts the damper on my plans then, was going to look at one this week!! Fabulous looking car though...wait on lurcher I think it will be worth it.Are you getting the petrol or diesel?

If that happened to me I would go mad. Where is the customer service in this?
You are paying a lot of money, entered into a binding contract to buy it so you should demand the car. The logistics of moving cars from asia or usa or where ever is quite simple, provided its initiated at dealer level to trigger the process.
Its quire possible that they did not order in time to meet delivery-something that Toyata are world class at. Next you will be posting here to say the dealer will not honour the trade in price quoted.

Its the petrol i'm waiting on & i do like the car so thats why i've decided to wait.
I was told by garage that they were obliged to stand over original deal so i will take their word on that for now.

Toyota are notorious for doing this.

A mate of mine was told 8-10 weeks for a new Landcruiser but he had to wait 6 months in total!

Can't say I have had any bother with Toyota ordered an Avensis the last week of Jan and had it the third week in feb( although I had been told by another Toyota dealer it would be April) and I ordered a Landcruiser in Mid March and got it last week, all in all very happy with the dealer I went with even though I had to travel to another county.....got a better deal on both as well saved about 3K in total.

Well I'm talking ROI.

You may have bought cars already in stock - new orders would not take 3 or 4 weeks.

Well it's all a bit strange...

I've bought a new car every year for the last 7 years and the only time I have had a car within a week or two was when it was in Ireland already.

The logistics of ordering a new car from the factory arriving in 3 to 4 weeks just does not add up. It takes a week to build a car nevermind get it on a boat to Ireland.

10-12 weeks in the norm for a new car from the factory ie. the Jan-April delivery time as posted by the OP.

Maybe its the Main dealer you are dealing with? I had long lead times with the one closest to me but far less with a main dealer in Cork.

Don't know why there is such a difference surely they all have access to the same info.

if there are add on extra features, it will take longer as they will make to the order & not to stock

J*ysus Caff - If you think its a fabulous looking car you should also pay a visit to specsavers this weekend!

Stock means it's in the country or on the way.

A car being ordered from the factory might not have any extras, there just might not be any of the model sitting around but a new car from the factory without extras will take as long as a new car from the factory with every extra ticked!

I spoke to salesman today & he told me he was getting two cars put in to his account (possibly three) he will know tomorrow morning. He does not know what colour they are but if one of them is the colour i want (ash grey) then it is mine,if not he said i would be better off looking for a different car as he can not tell me when it will be coming in.He said that basically the garage that he works in has over sold, that they will sell about 750 new cars this year & thaf i try another toyota dealer they will tell me the same. There are 55 toyota main dealers in the country & they are allin the sameboat. So fingers crossed that the ash grey will be one of the colours that go in to his account.

suspect the problem here is the left hand drive. Japanese cars are LH and when Toyota were importing for Japan there was no problem but most Corollas now come from Turkey where the vast majority of cars manufactured are RH drive. in 2002 I waited about 2 months for a new corolla.

Buy something else. Corollas are reliable, but are dynamically below average.

I used to work for Toyota and they have a system called dis which tells them what stage of delivery there cars are at, starts off on back order then goes to production, then to transport, then to ireland, then to charge. If you go in and ask the sales man at which one of these stages it's at he IS able to tell you that much, once the car has moved from back order they get a rough delivery date, if it's still on back order you will be waiting a long time. Sometimes what they do is swap a car they have in stock with a garage that has the one for you in stock, then you could have it straight away.

They are right hand drive! I love the way people just make things up on this site!!
